W124 Auto Gearbox Fluid & Filter Change

I actually completed the job on Saturday before anyone replied. I used a genuine filter and gasket. Oil I found out was Dextron II which was purchased from GSF. It took about 5.5 litres. I did indeed drain the torque converter too. The fluid that came out was red and the filter didn't look...

Head gasket change on W124 E200 - advice please.

If it is automatic, it'll have an oil cooler for the gearbox built into the radiator. Check the auto box dipstick.

Set of 15 hole Alloy Wheels for a 190

Full set of Mercedes 15 hole alloy wheels. They're from a W201 190. They'll also fit a W124 but the wheel nuts stick out a few mm further?! I bought them to keep my W124 mobile whilst I had it's wheels refurbished. Now that's done, I don't need them anymore. They have budget tyres fitted...

1991 W124 230E - Well sorted after much recent work.

Here is my advert for my lovely Mercedes W124. Unfortunately, after nearly 5 years, I think the time may be right to sell as I’m not going to have much free time to use the car in 2014 and I have two other cars to occupy my time. It’s an excellent car that’s benefited from a lot of worthwhile...

Head gasket change on W124 E200 - advice please.

Can't help with your oil cooler/heat exchanger query but the fact that the car overheated dramatically suggests head gasket failure. Check the water pump hasn't failed causing the overheating initially. The impeller could have failed. Re your experience with Bentley and doing the timing...

MB dealer nuts and bolts - whats the difference

Stick with MB supplied bolts IMO. Have you had to cut it off? Try PlusGas next time I've you've not used it before. Brilliant at releasing corroded fittings.

    Average mpg

My W124 230E isn't brilliant on fuel I must say. 32mpg on a good day. I thought it'd be a bit better than that bit I guess it's heavy, has a 4 speed gearbox and a diff that has it reving away on the motorway!

W124 Auto Gearbox Fluid & Filter Change

Also, am I correct in assuming it's Dextron II in these elderly gearboxes? Thank you :)

W124 Auto Gearbox Fluid & Filter Change

Going to change my gearbox oil and filter tomorrow. Firstly, does anyone know the torque settings for the gearbox sump pan bolts? Secondly, what's the capacity of the box if I drain the torque converter too? Haynes says to refill with 4 litres initially and move the selector and check...

    W124 radio not working

Yes, I've tried rotating the volume knob which is the on/off switch for the radio itself. No difference.

    W124 radio not working

My W124 has a Blaupunkt Cassablanca CM62 stereo. These were OEM in early W140 and illuminate and look perfect in the W124. It's stopped working tonight. When the key is out of the ignition, the red LED flashes as per normal. When I start the engine, the red LED goes out as per usual but...

    W124 Fuel Pump/Kickdown Relay

That was my thinking... I'm sure I could have got a used one for a fraction of the price but it would be twenty years old and could leave me stranded at some inconvenient time. Better to bite the bullet and hopefully have no more trouble for years to come!

    W124 Fuel Pump/Kickdown Relay

Just to update the thread. I bought a new relay from Mercedes. £94 plus VAT. Running like a Swiss Watch again.

    W124 driveshaft failure.

It must be the outer CV joint that has failed, not the drive shaft. I'm sure you could get a GKN (genuine supplier) CV Joint kit for around £50.

Cheers! I'll give them a bell in the morning and report back. :)

    W124 Fuel Pump/Kickdown Relay

Hello, My fuel pump relay has failed and the car won't start. When I bridge '30' and '87' I can hear the main pump buzz. With the relay fitted, nothing. I've opened it up and there's no obvious issue re dry joints etc so it's looking like I need a replacement. Where's best to go...

    W124 Gearbox issues 230ce (m102)

I'm having the exact same issue with my 1991 230e. I'll take a look at my vacuum system. My vacuum guage isn't working properly at the moment. When idling, it's reading about 40%. Touch the throttle and it heads straight to the red under the most modest of acceleration. Can anyone point me...

    W124 Ignition Timing & Emmissions

God help me! Being serious, it sounds like its running fine then. I'll still have a check over when I get a chance. Brakes aren't binding but the gearbox oil could do with a change. I always have it in 'E' unless pulling out of a busy junction or onto a busy roundabout etc. Gearbox seems...

    W124 Ignition Timing & Emmissions

The car has recently had the head gasket, radiator, water pump and thermostat replaced. The thermostat is from Mercedes. Seems to warm up quickly and runs at a smidge past 80 on the guage. There's no cataltic converter fitted. Will it still have a lamba probe? Emissions seem to low to me at...
