Two different things, pre heat for comfort is simply the heated seats and car heater and if its not plugged in it will use battery. Pre heating the battery for quick charging is done via the system while driving automatically, when you set your sat nav to go to a charger. Just for the record...

Of course it will use the battery when not plugged in! But if you mean when it is plugged in, I think it uses mains power, well, it hasn't ever been a problem for me anyway, all this about you can't heat cars and don't leave lights on with an electric car is a load of tosh it hardly makes any...

I cant see anything in the plastic end at all; all the gubbins is sticking out of the rest of the key which is why I'm confused it wont work!

The square end that fits into the car dash has snapped cleanly off, it actually clips back together but still won't work so I'm a little baffled as to why.

So.... some how I managed to break my key for the SL yesterday, luckily I was in the local petrol station, so my wife got a lift home to retrieve the spare key and all was sorted. A new one from MB re programmed etc is £333. I've tried one of the services who say they can do it cheaper but...

And its been towed in (tow hook attached at front) and it has NO KEYS with it. I think I'll pass on that one :D

Sorry its just me being Doh! I was fooled by your information which says you have a 2003 SL350. Its clearly neither a 2003 SL or SLK I keep forgetting how close the "new" SLK/SLC looks to the SL, so much so when passing one on the road its really difficult to decide if its an SL or SLK/SLC

That's why I'm confused it looks more like a 2003 SL350 with a new grill to me, nothing like a 2003 SLK it had the slopy front end and no grills in the bonnet or side of wings. And those running lights are the same as on my SL400 so nothing like a SLK. OK I've just realised its a modern SLK...
