Make sure your gear lever is pushed all the way forward, when my ignition key doesn't turn, its sometimes because the gear lever is 2mm further back than it should be and the interlock doesn't work.

The garage checked the bottom bolts were tight and they were. Sub frame bushes are ok. Can you replace the top mounts easily and cheaply?

My 2002 W210 (estate so probably S210) has self levelling rear suspension. It has a random "clonk". Two different (MB specialist independents) garages have had a good hard look at it and it isn't the rear subframe bushes, and they think the only way is to change the struts. But they cost about...

Would be interesting to see a lab test of this terraclean rather than the placebo effect.

I just read about terraclean, i don't think it would clean off a 5mm deposit of soot from the inlet manifold that was on my skoda and took a good soaking in paraffin to sort out. I'd rather pay £200 labour and get it done properly

My insurance wanted to write it off but I went through 3rd party and they offered Cash. Its a weird situation where they have a "policy" of writing cars off, but legally they have to put you back in the position you were in prior to the crash.

I still get loads of smoke when booting it, I will investigate getting the inlet manifold taken off and cleaned, also cleaning out the EGR valve too.

Used them again a couple of times, very good service at a decent price.

update on this, if you're interested. Got cash in lieu of repair, and got the boot lid whacked out by my garage for £25. Boot motor sorted itself out a few weeks ago. Just need to wash it and touch up a couple of chips in the paint.

I fitted Nokian All Weather Plus (all season, rated for snow with the mountain and snowflake symbol). Very good all rounders, been on since October and done 6000 miles in them. Look same as a pure winter tyre too. Vredestein Quatrac are well regarded too.
