Urgh. It looks like the rocker cover gasket / seals need to be done too. I’ve not even dealt with the IC pump yet! Not sure I like the constant need for tinkering with the older M113K vs the newer M157 that required no attention beyond servicing!

You likely have split wiring in the loom at the boot hinge. A very common fault with some cars.

Nice CLK! What year is that? Did you add the facelift grill and rear lights or is the a very late and rare facelift CLK 55?

If the car has been sitting and the battery is worn you will see very odd issues. Get the battery on a CTEK and see if it’s better - if so you probably want to factor in a new battery. Or just replace the battery if it’s over 10 years of age.

tbh, they should be 😂 I know of one engine builder on the M113K where at least 3 of his engines had terrible consumption and at least one required a rebuild. All 3 engines built by the same persoj and in the same car.

Remember the originator is the name atop the engine!

Small engine size / high power output. Failure is somewhat unsurprising given how highly stressed these power plants must be? Honestly, prefer the proven and tested engines M113K / M156 / M157
