    Insurance, remapping, voided insurance

So the check-sum lets the reader know that a change has been made? But not what specifically has been done? Thanks

    Insurance, remapping, voided insurance

Interesting. But please don't misunderstand me, I am not interested in insurance fraud, I'm interested in how it is detected. This is becasue I am interested in how things work in general and there is virtually nothing on the net about this issue (i.e. how the map is evidenced).

That's me then! BTW, I'd be nice if anyone has a link to info on how the map is registered/date stamped in the ecu ?

    Insurance, remapping, voided insurance

I was under the impression most maps just plug in, no need to open up the box (not chipping). SO the way to tell its been mapped is if the map in there is different to the manufacturers... is there a database of such things? Or, is there a date-coded fingerprint???

evidence? Hi all - Yes, interesting. I guess in an expensive claim they would use forensic investigators to inspect an ecu. Although having said that it would be nice to see a case in print just to see what the outcome was. In terms of electronic fingerprints, how does one know if the remap...

    Insurance, remapping, voided insurance

I assumed they'd have proprietary software / or Vauxhall that would be used to check this. Is the date of remapping recorded in a file somewhere on the car: I suppose that is the biggest clue. No problem for a buyer, they can claim ignorance, but for someone having the remap done is a date...

    Insurance, remapping, voided insurance

I definitely agree on telling the insurance company... I am just curious if anyone actually has a link to a story or firsthand experience of a remap being 'found out' and the dire consequences people yep on about. In the google searches I've done absolutely ZERO evidence of this being a risk...

    Insurance, remapping, voided insurance

Hi there - I am NOT going to ask what has already been asked 5 million times since the start of the universe (i.e. do you declare your remap to the insurance company :ban:). But what I do want to ask - as google has not shown any shred of evidence  - is have you ever seen, heard or...

    Engine warning after garage visit

I've used them for a couple of years and trust them, bu yes on this occasion they have done a sloppy job. As long as they correct it tho i will be happy. Thanks for the feedback... they wanted to inspect the fault and then do the steeering

    Engine warning after garage visit

self centering This may not be related (I may have only just noticed), but the steering self centering is weak, and on a sharp, slow car park maneuver I have noticed that the centering actually starts to work the opposite way - ie it self centers to the right or left... never noticed before...

    Engine warning after garage visit

Thanks all. yes, steering wheel is canted over 45 degrees to the left and the ESP warning is on. They did say they tracked it tho... how could they?

    Engine warning after garage visit

Brilliant! yes, the steering is miles out, and they have agreed to sort that, but after they have investigated the sensor fault... this must be connected! (I hope) Also, yes, the battery is only 6 months old and in good nick Cheers people

    Engine warning after garage visit

I have just had some suspension work done on the front. When I picked up the car the engine warning light was on (yellow one) But the mechanic turned the ignition off/on and it went away. Fine. next day while driving on motorway the 'ESP faulty, drive to workshop' came on. Not happy. I...

    Average mpg

I think all 'what mpg are u getting' posts should have a mandatory TANK TO TANK, NOT ON BOARD COMPUTER warning, so that real data is recorded rather than fantasy. C270 CDI auto, 20-30 around town, 40 on a 75 mph motorway run, average around 37 mpg in a mix of 3/4 fast, 1/4 slow driving.

Is Mayo normal on a oil cap of a low mileage C240 petrol

For comparison I had a c200 petrol auto. 31 mpg combined use, 34 mpg gentle m/way drives, 20 + if heavy town traffic.

Is Mayo normal on a oil cap of a low mileage C240 petrol

Dive like a granny and get 36 mpg would be my motto sadly  Drive like a normal person and get low 30s  drive a 70 on the m/way and get 40+ tho

    new to mercedes

I think yours will not have the DPF which is a blessing and makes remapping more efficient. This car is not quick standard, but should be ok with a remap. At least your mpg should be good.

CDI MPG real world v OBD (clk 270 CDI)

Its probably just error from the cut off, nothing else. Do full empty tank to tank refills for best accuracy, and then you need 5 of them before you get a statistically accurate view on your mpg... but 33 may be about right given my experience (36 ish usually)

CDI MPG real world v OBD (clk 270 CDI)

big difference in c270 mpg Hi - my car (calculated brim to empty brim) averages between 34 - 39 mpg :(, depending on the amount of traffic and town driving. I am now very envious! C270 CDI, auto, full MB service history etc. With a light foot and constant 70 mph m/way journey I got 44 mpg...
