    Clutch not disengaging

Just catching up. The original post was January 2013 - a year and 5 months ago. Since doing that clutch fluid change, there have been no more issues from that department. I'm not trying to throw out a karma boomerang and say it's all good, just that the fluid change avoided the engine drop and...

    Clutch not disengaging

My mate (he's a good general mechanic who insisted I was wasting our time) and I bled out the hydraulic fluid from the gearbox earlier on. If came out black. He said he'd never seen that before. Kept pumping and topping up, and it's got the firmness back. Went a run and there's no problem at...

    Clutch not disengaging

Had a poke around the master cylinder under the pedal this morning and I can hear it "fart" when I press it down. Surely that's not right ? I'm thinking I might get that changed first, seeing it's comparatively cheap and simple. The part is ~£50 and looks like an hour or so's work. Clutching...

    Clutch not disengaging

Thanks Dieselman. Unfortunately, I think I need to bite this mans hand off for a fixed price repair. Appreciate the time you took to reply. Tony

    Clutch not disengaging

Thanks. Really appreciate that. Is ~£700 reasonable ? I see the bits are £300 ish from Eurocarparts retail, so ~£400 for an engine drop and rebuild might not be that bad ? Might as well get everything else tightened up whilst it's out. Thanks, Tony

    Clutch not disengaging

Thanks Dieselman. I really appreciate the reply. Obviously it's not what I wanted to read :-( I can see from your post history that you obviously know your stuff. Can I ask what drives you to bypass the master and go for the slave ? I'm not at all questioning your prognosis, I just want to...

    Clutch not disengaging

Hello, Over the past couple of days, I have noticed the odd sticky gear change, until today when I have to stop the car and switch if off, then start it in gear to change gear. Last thing this evening, if I started it in gear, it was actually partially engaged and moving on the starter...

Vaneo A414 Topping out at 4000 RPM

Hello, The Vaneo again. 1.7CDI, Manual, Diesel, 2002, A-Class, 150K+ miles. I had this problem last summer, then it went away and just returned during the nice weather. Car starts fine generally and no issue. Plenty revs and pull etc. When I get about 5 miles up the road, presumably...

The problem I had, with similar symptoms, was that a hose had been crushed in the bonnet. This seems to be a vacuum hose that feeds the turbo. It was fed from an acuator beneath the wash bottle, over the bulkhead and into the turbo department. It might be worth tracing this hose for any kinks.

    Mercedes family car? (7 seater)

We've had a couple of Vaneo's. We have 4 small people. As far as internal design, versatility, and multiple carriage of small people is concerned, they are probably the best car ever designed. In terms of repairability, they are just f.n hopeless. Changing a fanbelt requires putting up on a...

Cylinder Head Express In Govan, Glasgow.

Hello, Anyone ever heard of these people ? I just called to ask if they could replace an injector seal on a Vaneo (A Class), and the bloke sounded as if he knew exactly what he was talking about. "Oh yes, what happens is the clamp works loose and we have to helicoil it and reseat it. Should...

Alternator - Part Numbers - What do they mean ?

Hi, And again, thanks for your kind help. I went into Merparts tonight and the team had a look at the device and numbers. They looked up EPC, and it said that the 0102 was for chassis number up to N21 1521, thereafter it's 0202, superceded by 0302. Mine is N21 3694, so the numbers don't fit...

    A170 Battery/Alternator?

Well, I suppose otherwise you could theoretically return a part on day 364 every year and get free batteries for life - right ? Anyway. People who work in Halfords are shop assistants. If they were qualified to understand batteries, they'd likely not be working in Halfords (no disrespect or...

Alternator - Part Numbers - What do they mean ?

Thanks for the replies. To be honest, the MB device is only about £30 more than I paid for the Valeo that I bought from another supplier - I'd have gone for that if there was one available - that way I'd get a 2 yr warranty, and the risk would be with the garage. However, all MB outlets are...

Alternator - Part Numbers - What do they mean ?

Great - thanks for that. What about the A668 154 0202 verus A668 154 0102 ? And also, would it make sense that a worn, noisy bearing would be placing an abnormal load on the engine, thereby accounting for the stark rise in fuel consumption ? The two seem to be linked, co-incidentally or...
