    Odd MOT advisories

One of my cars had the advisory that: "Item restricting view from windscreen removed prior to MOT Test" Essentially they put in an advisory for an item that wasn't there which could cause any interference or issue. If there had been something in the way that they had to remove then it would...

    Ex-Graham Hill Ferrari 250 GTO

I was at a party about 12 years ago an a dunk boy who turned up in his fathers 250 GTO insisted I take it for a spin. Unfortunately I'd been drinking and didn't want to foot the bill if I crashed it so I ended up driving it around a farms field. My lasting memory was: stank of petrol and...

    High mileage c270

Ah sorry, not my car but same spec and oddity with the millage. Good luck

    High mileage c270

Are you able to post the registration number, sounds like my old car! I had an MOT where the person had dropped a pen on the MOT form and mark a mark like a 1, it then got recorded as having 100K more miles than it should, the following year they corrected it as the millage on the car was...

    Car buying bleat.

Looks like a rebadged Alfa Romeo Mito to me from the front and side profiles: Just a few styling changes to the grill, wheels etc.

    Tesla Model 3 revealed - £24,000 and 0-60mph in 6 seconds

It seems I'm a bit slow at all this. Indeed yes, for my daily work commute, 200 miles to see my mistress would be a bit much and the wife may find out. My Jaguar XK8 V8 runs on LPG so only costs me £26 for the 200 mile round trip, I tried a new Mini the other day, that cost £23 so...

    MOT Failure

My point is, it stats "Items removed from driver's view prior to test". How can the tester note a item not in the car at the point of testing? For example, if I have a blown headlight bulb in the 1st April 2000 and I replace it the next day but MOT the car in 2016 does that mean the tester...

    Tesla Model 3 revealed - £24,000 and 0-60mph in 6 seconds

I do 202 miles each day, I'm genuinely interested in a Tesla but range anxiety for me is a big issue. When they develop an electric car that can do 400+ miles on a charge then I'll seriously look at them, until then I'll continue driving and enjoying my V8.

    MOT Failure

I was just looking up the MOT history on my past cars, to see if any are still running and to my surprise most are. One, however had an advisory in it: "Items removed from driver's view prior to test" - how on earth can something not in the car be reason for an advisory?

    Engine Carbon Clean

They did it on a Jaguar XK8 on Wheeler Dealers with good results. I know a chap who had a TerraClean done on his XKR and he was very happy. I was going to do it but ran out of time. I've seen some people complain after having it done as they claim it upsets things. Not sure myself.

Halfords 5 Piece Lifting Kit - Any good?

I've tried that sort of trolly jack before and they are not very good. The jack and axel stands are rated as 2ton each. Think of it this way, if you are going to lift a 2-2.5 ton car and then crawl around under it, banging on it and using leverage do you really want lightweight jack and stands...

Just about to buy £1.5-£2k to spend

I had a C270 04 plate, replaced it with a Volvo V70 T5 - The Volvo is a much better car and a cheaper, about 4 years ago I bought one for only £1450 and apart from a dodgy throttle body needing a clean it want brilliantly for 2 years. The C270 was a whole lot more trouble and a lot more...

Which automatic 4 seat convertible for £10k-20k?

Mine has 4 seats, okay the maximum age to go in the back is probably about 12. Leg space in the rear is "limited". You couldn't put your mum and dad in the back, that's for sure.

Which automatic 4 seat convertible for £10k-20k?

Jaguar XK8 or XKR depending on your need for more power. I have an 1998 XK8 Convertible, picked it up for only £4K, done 15,000 miles in it with no problems at all. Loads of power, great drive and feel, good looks (I think), very British in general. The V8 returns 22mpg, I've LPG'ed it so it now...

    Diesel engine reliability

My mechanic mate (sorry Master Technician) said in his opinion diesels suffer more problems as the fuel injection system is generally under much higher pressure than an equivalent petrol. This is one of the main reasons I buy big V8 powered petrol cars rather than modern small engine diesel...

    Advice or suggestions

Just a quick update, my sister confirms the receipt he was given for the money does indeed have the registration number of the vehicle marked on it. She does not know if the vendor received any money though, probably not is the answer.

    Advice or suggestions

That's all helpful chaps, I'll find out if the receipt had details of the car on it. As far as I am aware, this chap has been running a successful company for a number of years, with many happy customers. I think my sister was naive as she paid cash before even seeing the car or it's V5...

Yep, a sorry story indeed. She has a receipt he gave her for the money? I sounds like there is no criminal compensation fund payment applicable here.

    Advice or suggestions

Right, just spoken to my sister. She said the chap has been charged with fraud. Apparently in the month leading up to making a runner, she sold everything. He had £300,000 worth of deposits from clients, whatever he had from the sale of his worldly possessions and every penny has vanished, he...
