New owner of A class W169 signing in

Hello and welcome. I have owned w169 A Classes for 11 years. A much-underrated car. I had mine serviced at a dealership recently and they were saying how impressed they were at the the huge mileages achieved by many they see.

    W169 A class Wing mirrors

On my previous W169 I was quoted £1100 to replace fixed mirrors with folding by main dealer...so next time took care to get them as an option from new!

    Wifes new whip! lol w168

Always thought the A Class would repair its reputation over time - but thought it more likely to happen to the W169.

    Odd Tyre Pressure Warning

Was driving my w169 A Class yesterday and out of the blue got a big red 'Check Tyre pressures' warning on the display. All tyres looked ok,pressures normal. Then asked to reset pressure warning system which I did and went on my way. Anyone had anything similar?

Tell him 1.It's not a sport and 2. Always be on the lookout for some other driver doing something stupid.

    Advice please 2009 A W169

Mine's a 2010 petrol manual and unfailingly reliable. I thought about changing it recently, but have now decided to keep it.

    Downsizing wheels for smoother ride

This echoes my experience. I was all ready to get a new B Class, but found the ride on a test drive most unsatisfactory. This had 17" wheels and although badged Sport I was told had the same suspension set up as the SE,just more bits like folding mirrors etc. (This is still unclear to me). Why...

    Manchester Arena

As a former journalist I am disappointed, to put it mildly, at some aspects of the coverage of tho appalling event. It serves no purpose to interview mothers with daughters who were at the event - and who have yet to hear from them, and fear the worst. It will be defended on the...

    B Class.....Discuss

One other thing that put me off the W246 B Class is that the SE on 16" alloys doesn't have electric folding mirrors. To get that you have to get the Sport version with an executive or premium pack or some such, which has 17" wheels, which do not help the ride. Possible they might swap the...

    B Class.....Discuss

Agree with you about the previous B Class which along with the w169 A was under-rated IMO. I was hoping to transfer to W246 B when my A gives out. But it is lower and not suitable for my other half who has mobility problems, and I also found that the ride was poor.

Correct. Occasionally on this forum the 'not a proper Mercedes' brigade flex their muscles.

    Continental vs Goodyear

I recently had a set of Goodyear Vector 4 Seasons fitted and they seem excellent. Ride quality significantly improved over non-all-season Continentals.

Similar good experience with Goodyear All Season Generation2.

    A Class, thoughts please?

They have some detractors on here, as you will have seen. But I've been driving the 169 for nine years with no trouble whatsoever (latest manual petrol 2010 - my second)). A much under-rated car IMO. However the rusty seams pre-2008 are undoubtedly an issue - many have had new...

Has Mercedes Configurator Thrown a Woobly?

Configurator aside, I think MB have some curious anomalies in their 'packages'. I was thinking about an SE B Class (petrol 16" wheels) but then discovered you couldn't have electric folding mirrors, which only come with the Sport version (and 17" wheels, with consequential effect on the ride).

    A or B Class

Odd that extra 2psi in the tyres would mean extra comfort. You would have thought harder tyres would mean less comfort?

    2009 -2012 A Class A W169 petrol or diesel

There's no denying the 168/169 A Classes had a chequered history, but I think they did get it right in the end. Even when it was in production I suspected it would be one of those cars more appreciated for its virtues as time went on.

    The A180 CDi

I sort of agree with you about the new B Class - except that my W169 A Class cost £17k whereas a similarly specced B Class is £25k.

    The A180 CDi

It would be interesting to know whether MB's decision to drop the W169 A Class in favour of something completely different is actually paying off? Local dealer tells me that no W169 owner has so far swapped for the new version. This is not really surprising as the new open is aimed at an...

    Upgrading to Electric Folding Mirrors

For my previous w169 A Class I was quoted £1,100 to retrofit folding mirrors. Needless to say I included this option on the next one at £145 from the factory.
