    Stalls when running

Soryy, I didn't read the thead earlier. If it is a Denso pump powered car (diesel pump at the back of the engine), the common fault is that the joints in the pump go bad. Easy fix. Prise of the black top off the pump and re-solder the joints that you can see. Cheers

    What slide in radio\navigation system?

Hi, If you are interested, I have a couple of Blaupunkt din size radio/CD/satnav units lying about here. New, in box, never used. These do not need speed pulse. But the GPS aerial does need fitting somewhere. I know they are easy to use, even a plank like me can use it....... Cheers

Audi experts: how do I know which engine version an A4 TDi has?!

Probably 110 hp. Do you have the engine code. Something like 1Z, AHF? Cheers

MB not the only make to have problems

Hi, No, not Bilstein. The RS6 has the DRC suspension system that is manufactured by Kayaba.......... Cheers

MB not the only make to have problems

Just a note to say that my Audi RS6 is at the dealership again for some more warranty work. Another shock absorber to be renewed, and the lumbar adjustment pump in the driver's seat has stopped working. So Mercedes is not the only manufacturer to have quality problems....... On a lighter...

    Common faults on W140 S500 ?

In addition to the above mentioned points, I can add: Front wings rusty. From memory, new wings are only about £140 each from MB, so no great expense here. Interior fan resistor pack failure. The fan stops working when this fails. It can be bought seperately from MB but it is over a £100...

W124 Auto 5 speed when cold

Although I am not sure, I would expect the 'problem' is the ATF temperature. When cold the ATF is slightly thicker and will probably result in a slightly higher pressure. Higher pressure normally means that the gearbox will hold onto gears a bit longer. Changing to a high quality, synthetic ATF...

    AA or RAC?

I think that the AA and RAC are much the same in the way they operate. The patrols are bonus driven, so uplift loses them money. One thing that makes me swing towards the RAC is that the last few years, they have been actively recruiting mechanics with very good electrics and electronics...

Has anyone ever owned a reliable MB?

Now you walk into a MB workshop to speak to the Mastertech. And he says: 'buy a Toyota' :-) But you're right, VAG have never made a long lasting automatic gearbox, especially compared to MB

Has anyone ever owned a reliable MB?

I bought an RS6 Avant because I spend more and more time in Germany and I need the space. Rear suspension and gearbox are the weak spots. I think these type of cars (like the E55 etc.) are do-able if they are covered by a manufacturer's warranty, you can live with sub 20 mpg and can handle...

Has anyone ever owned a reliable MB?

Hi, I think that most cars have their problems. I purchased an Audi RS6 a few weeks back. It is now sitting at Audi Dundee getting the rear shocks and suspension valves replaced as well as some minor elctrical problems seen to under warranty. So mechanical and electrical faults are not just...

Anyone here from South Africa ?

I normally spend a few months a year in Somerset West, Western Cape, when it is too cold in the UK.

    Cdi won't start when hot...

I would check the rail pressure during the non start by means of diagnostic computer. From the top of my head it should have at least 250 bar during cranking in order to start. If the pressure regulator in the high pressure pump sticks or the o ring around the regulator fails, it is possible for...

    Good dealer experience

Maybe the old man has 2 sons? Or maybe Jekyll & Hyde syndrom. :-)

    Good dealer experience

On a positive note, I have just had good experience with my local MB dealer, John Weir in Perth. I went round to get some warranty issues sorted out and spoke to Lynn at the service desk. Even though apparently MB do no longer replace headlights with water ingress under warranty, Lynn sorted the...

E320 CDI Turbo Failure at 37000 miles???

It looks like it. I did check my ML that had a new turbo about 20K miles ago. Still pretty clean, running with EGR disabled. My Golf TDi with 125K miles had a proper inlet and turbo clean about 50K miles ago. At the same time I programmed the EGR shut and was still quite clean at 118K miles...

E320 CDI Turbo Failure at 37000 miles???

Most of the failures I have seen on the MB, BMW, VAG and Renault diesels are not the main core that fails but the 'variable vane' part that gets stuck. Sometimes the lever can be unstuck with some gentle persuasion but quite often the vanes are stuck in 1 position that causes either overboost...

    MB Lack of Quality

I think that I can be classed as a MB enthusiast, owning an ML again and having W220 as a daily hack, even after having some dreadful experiences with the quality. I do think it is quite usefull to have both negative as well as positive marque experiences as posts. At least, it will give the...

    importing a g55 from usa

Cars imported from an EU country don't attract duty. Cars from outside the EU normally attract 10% duty as far as I know.

    importing a g55 from usa

Unless you can document that the car has been in your name in the country of initial registration, you will have to pay 10% duty and 17.5% VAT. As for shipping, the East coast docks are all regulated by the Teamsters, so very expensive. Better to ship through Montreal and almost half your...
