Winter tyres saved me three times!!!!

Agreed, especially on road surface conditions, the required speeds to avoid traffic, etc. Similarly, French autoroutes are very well drained (compared with the UK), so the risks of meeting ice or aquaplaning are much lower there in my experience of all three countries. There are many very good...

Winter tyres saved me three times!!!!

Fog is not the same thing. :) Goodnight. Markjay, I did not state I drove in the UK at 90mph. I stated that my winter tyres have a speed rating far in excess of 90mph, and I'd expect I could use them in Germany this winter at that speed knowing there's a greater proportion of cars on the road...

Winter tyres saved me three times!!!!

Some of you are saying winter tyres are not justified in the UK, especially under current conditions. Some of us are saying it is our choice to use them, and are happy to exercise our rights to do so, without being argumentative about your rights to not use them. We're sharing our experiences...

Winter tyres saved me three times!!!!

Apial, you're wasting your time! :) Some of the justifications for using summer tyres in current conditions remind me of those made for using tyres at 1.6mm because they are legal and "good enough" - and anyway, one can always walk if the weather's too bad to drive at that tread depth! There...

Winter tyres saved me three times!!!!

Borys, I support you. Here's why. On several trips between Northern and Southern France, I've reached 1,000m above sea level and seen snow/ice on the roads, having to drive gingerly whilst shod with summer tyres. Yet before setting off, I never saw any forecasts of sub-zero temperatures or ice...

    C63 Tyre Wear Rates

Dec 2011 update Looks like I was wrong on my previous measures. Here's what was digitally measured at the dealership this month, at 4,200 miles, on the OEM Yoko Advans. OSF Outer: 6.4mm OSF Middle: 7mm OSF Inner: 6.6 NSF Outer: 4.5mm NSF Middle: 4.5mm NSF Inner: 5mm OSR Outer: 5.4mm OSR...

Bought a brand new 2011 C63 AMG then read this.

Actually not so. Luxury climate control confers lots of benefits far greater than the simple functionality you describe in your post. IMO the OP is quite right to stay focused on his points.

    C63 + MCT advice

Every time I'm in my C63, I'm on holiday. :) Same for every one of my passengers. Sounds like you've talked yourself out of regular holidays the likes of which you'll never be able to replicate as you would in a C63 (whatever variant). :) However, your money, your choice. Happy for you...

I’ve been offered a new C63AMG, thoughts please

This is the key for me. Personally, I wouldn't bother and suspect a cancelled order. BUT if you really must, then: You need to share the GFV and the APR for both cars to see what the real cost is for you. The maths should justify (or overturn) the temptation for a change. That cost is to...

    New car update...

My rationale? The CLS63 may be too big for you. I was originally going to bet on that or the C, but your switch to the M3 swayed me. Size and nimbleness, y'see, so M3 to C63 would be less dramatic than the M3 to CLS63. Having said that, you did go from 997TT to Maserati...... :) Will keep my...

    New car update...

He's done a superb job! Well done! By the way, it is still only a matter of time before you're back in a C63 - and I'm willing to bet a bottle of decent champagne you'll do so within a year! If I can make it to Goodwood (long shot), I'll show up to lay the bet personally. :)

    Calling c63 owners ?

For an hour? I haven't managed to do that for more than about 10 constant minutes......!!! Thread starter, the best I've got in town (London) was 16mpg, flowing roads, lucky with the lights on a 20 minute run. Best I've had on a long-ish run (100 miles each way, motorway for about 80% of the...

Anyone had tyres repaired using the hot vulcanising method?

Thanks to you both. There's a place in Hants called TS Tyres that apparently do them, and I learnt ATS can/will send the tyre away to TS Tyres and you wait about a week (or you could drop them off yourself and wait up to two hours!). Someone mentioned the use of an autoclave in the process...

Anyone had tyres repaired using the hot vulcanising method?

Thanks, Malcolmsmill. :thumb: Renault12ts, you're misinformed. I know of two companies (South and North West) that specialise in this. Legally. Back to my original question, does anyone one here use this method for their cars/other vehicles, and if so, any recommendations?

Anyone had tyres repaired using the hot vulcanising method?

As title. Curious to know as I learned most places do the cold vulcanising method, which limits the options for repairing punctures away from the centre tread. But fitters send discarded tyres away to a place or two where hot vulcanising is used to fully repair and bake the tyre so that it's...

    C63 Tyre Wear Rates

Simon, thanks. This is very useful. I'll look out for Michelin Pilot Supersports in future. I don't drive near the limit either. I've never before seen inside fronts wear like that on any of my cars, so I'll be measuring mine carefully and will report back when I have.

That's pretty good on the rear. How's the grip compared with the Yokos??

    C63 Tyre Wear Rates

Understood. What's your current depth on those MPS tyres? I'd expect my kind of use to be harder on the Yokos (lots of starts) than cruising on autoroutes. I've pushed the car more in the past 500 miles than previously. Did my first drift at the weekend. :) So wear rates will worsen, I guess...

C63 facelift - anybody placed an order yet? Any good PCP deals?

Curious about your last sentence. Because if you can (i) get a loan off your mortgage for the entire amount (a further advance), (ii) at an APR below the MB offer, (iii) repaying over 3 years and a guaranteed price for a trade-in (or walk away), (iv) plus a discount equal to or greater than the...
