    W202 losing coolant

5 litres a week is a lot - you might even have a leak on the transmission oil cooler in the radiator. The only way to identify if it is the head gasket is to do a leak down test.

SL500 - cut out while driving, won't start

Definitely a moisture problem. I would remove and clean all fuses, check all earth points for corrosion and then ensure every electrical box and connection is water proof. Check your battery connections for corrosion too. Electrical spray works and dielectric grease can work wonders.

Modern Mercedes engines have much tighter tolerances, they certainly aren't BMC A series engines:doh: A 3.2 M112 in good condition will use no oil between services, as long as it is a synthetic oil used with the correct fleece filter; and keep the oil level below the max mark:D

    Spark plug mix and match

I would never use Champions in a Mercedes:( Only Bosch and maybe NGK, and note these platinum tipped plugs are capable of doing 100 000 miles easily - luckily, as they are a b@tch to change.
