W202 Boot Wont Open (I know, another one!)

Well it appears I've managed to fix it. The eye that the mechanism locks onto was set slightly too low, so I raised it up out of its recess slightly and now the lock opens correctly. Not sure what that was all about, I assume that the eye has to go right to the top of the mechanism to not...

W202 Boot Wont Open (I know, another one!)

Hello all, So yet again there is another thread about a boot not opening. :wallbash: My woe's began when I took the boot lid off some time ago to put the OEM spoiler on. I'm not sure what happened, the boot lid was bolted back on correctly, but ever since then its been very sketchy with when...

Problem with W202 armrest storage compartment

Has this happened gradually or did it happen after you'd taken it apart before? I only say as mine was working fine until I took it apart to clean it just after I bought the car, now it acts just as yours does. I don't think I put it back together quite right and now it won't open on its own...

    W202 Pulley ID

Hmm, just seen this and thought I'd put a conclusion on it! The noise was indeed caused by the damper; the top bush was cracked and split so the metal ring at the top was vibrating against its mount. £30 for a new damper, ten minute job to fit it and problem solved. Nice and simple!

Look what Kwik Fit did to my alloy

Keep talking about it here and Kwikfit management will turn up and offer a solution - several motoring forums I've used over the years have had Kwikfit complaint threads, and their management have pitched up along the way and brought the issue to a nice conclusion. It seems they trawl the web...

Planes, Trains and Automobiles (and a few others besides).

Good picture that; puts the still life sketch I did when I was 15 that my mum still has on her kitchen wall to shame!

    W202 C200 sport 1998 model

I believe they are 16.5mm speakers, however the original's are very shallow, so your usual depth one's from the shop would need an adapter to raise them from the door. The frame they sit in to screw onto the door is an odd shape too, so you'd need an adapter plate to get them to sit securely...

    Anybody use an engine flush?

This subject always seems to polarise opinions, I've been on some forums where the masses say flushing an engine is the worst thing you can possibly do, and will certainly definately kill your engine and all those around you at the time. I've done a few flushes in the past using Wynns stuff...

    W202 Pulley ID

Thanks for the info guys, I had a play with it the other day to practice taking it apart, and it appears that the bush at the top of the damper is what is causing the noise. Nothing looked untoward when I inspected and cleaned it, but when its in place you can clearly see that its vibrating at...

    W202 Pulley ID

Roger that, seen a YouTube video of a guy changing both, looks straightforward enough. (Until I try it myself no doubt!)

    W202 Pulley ID

Thanks guys, will put this to the not very long list of things to do!

    W202 Pulley ID

As time's gone on, I've realised that the rattling from my engine is not down to the tappets, but from the pulley shown below that is clearly a bit worse for wear: I can see it vibrating as the engines running. (You can see the bolt on the tip of it is a bit fuzzy in the picture as its...

    Saudi driving

Ah, the Wacky Races that is driving in the Middle East. "We will reach our destination, Inshallah." I spent a while in Qatar, I still remember the night I saw a truck driving down a D/C with no lights on, and a metal chain dragging along the road a few feet behind the trailer. You only knew...

I'm no fan of French cars, but I do appreciate Citroen's bonkers cars they did in the past!

    Binz Edition Merc

It does look very hearse-like, and I dread to think how it is to try and park. Not an issue in a big open space, but driving round London for example? No thanks! I suppose if you need the load space of a small van, but don't want a van or MPV and still have a family to cart around, perhaps that...

    Binz Edition Merc

I saw this a few weeks ago in the shopping centre car park, and wondered what the hell it was at first: Turns out its a Binz Edition of the Mercedes. Gives it a much bigger load area and a bit of extra leg room I think. I've never seen one before, are they common on the Continent?

The 'own up to ruining your car' thread

Feeling very proud after changing the rocker cover gaskets on my old V6 Mazda MX-6 I realised I was missing one washer for the cover bolts. "Must have fallen into the engine bay" I thought. The reality was that the above statement should not have had the word "bay" at the end. The engine did...

    A/C Smell

Always good to find a bit of a DIY solution to problems. Mind you, wouldn't using one of those A/C cleaning spray cans that go in the interior do the same job? They are supposed to kill all the bacteria in the system.

Touring: MB World and the Cotswolds

Some lovely photo's there, you've made me a little homesick as I'm from that neck of the woods in the Cotswolds. Being up at Chipping Norton you were fairly near the Heritage Motor Centre, that's an interesting place to look around too if you haven't been there before.

    C180 Engine Rattle

Thanks horgantrevor, will start preparing for that fix in the near future. @ NW_Merc, I'll update my info box with a bit more detail, 'C180 Sport' does lack a bit of focus!
