    W208 sound system versus W209

I recently replaced my W208 CLK 230 with a W209 220CDI While I am generally happy with the switch things like ride quality being harsher, interior quality cheaper, and the sound system have been disappointments. Whereas the previous car had a very impressive sound with a 13 speaker system...

    EGR system removal.

I find it extraordinary that after spending so much effort over the years in removing exhaust gasses from the combustion chamber as efficiently and quickly as possible, (bigger valves, more valves, polished exhaust ports, freeflow exhaust systems etc), someone has come up with the hair brain...

    EGR system removal.

Just had auto box service, diff oil change, and thorough check over underneath at Alex Crow in Stowmarket. All for £266 which I thought was reasonable. Asked about EGR delete on a remap and they will do it for £90. Is that good?

    EGR system removal.

Does that mean the system will still be there but inoperable? I suppose the advantage of that would be restoring it to operational if emissions testing becomes stricter.

    EGR system removal.

While considering how essential the EGR system is with it's inherent complexity, and potential for problems, I came across a video for it's entire removal from BMW cars where there is even a kit available with blanking plates etc. Thereby increasing reliability, and removing the clutter from...

    Unknown electronic box.

I thought it might be the ECU. But a footwell seems a funny place for it. Or some control module maybe for seat belt pre-tensioners or air bags. It is made by Siemens and does have a part number so maybe putting these on a search might reveal something. The cylindrical object has a thick earth...

    Unknown electronic box.

I was in the process of removing the carpet on the passenger side front footwell (UK) when I noticed a black box behind the footplate and a cylindrical contraption next to it to the right. What are these? As I am about to have welding done to the underside in that area, I am concerned about...

    Worth trying.

    Boot lid not opening. W208

Could it be? The rest of the locks react to the fog with no problem.

    Boot lid not opening. W208

Hi guys, for several months now the boot actuator is not responding to either the remote control fob or the boot release button on the console. I can use the manual key. Is there a way to check that it is the actuator and not the vacuum pump? The door locks are working fine but the three flashes...

    Boot Stuck Shut on w208

There is still the nagging question, What operates that lock when the button is pressed? Is it a solenoid? A u-tube video mentioned a vacuum hose attached to the lock. What provides the vacuum if that is the case?

    Boot Stuck Shut on w208

Found some AC50 I use on the bicycle chain with PTFE. Key now works, turned anti-clockwise and press. At least I can get in to look at that solenoid and maybe free it or replace it, The battery is in the boot, not being able to get to that was a concern.

    Boot Stuck Shut on w208

Good point, just sprayed it with WD a half hour ago. Will let it work and try again later.

    Boot Stuck Shut on w208

OH DEAR!! The boot on my CLK has defied all my attempts to open it. The button on the console will not work despite the red light on that button being on. No luck with the key fob button or the manual key on the key fob. Is there any other way to access the boot or reset the solenoid that opens...

    W208 CLK locked in "Park"

This has become increasingly difficult to move the gear selector lever away from the "P" position while pressing the brake pedal. There is a manual release through a flap on the selector panel which I have used and this sort of works but with also with increasing difficulty. I've been told this...

New Member With a Old Merc

Hi, and welcome to the community. You realy have something special there. My first Merc was a W115, similar but more basic, two litre petrol with a manual box. Two tons and no power steering, or any other frills for that matter, but of all the cars I had, i cherished that the most. A rare...
