Anybody got a teenage daughter ?

I have a 12 year old that still thinks all boys smell......I'm trying to get her to hold that thought until she's 30.

My cat B car so far!

Actually this is getting mildly amusing now. So just to wind you up a bit more I have this nagging thought in the back of mind. I'll expand.....Humour me, and take this as another hypothetical question (and lets not state this as fact or anything approaching fact or even advice. Say there's...

My cat B car so far!

Like I said, it's changed a lot since I had the issue, I learnt a lot over the last two days and posted on my findings. I got caught with a categorised car before the VIC system was implemented at the time It was a requirement it was engineer inspected (in my case by a firm called Autolign that...

My cat B car so far!

Still it was a good exercise don't you think? Up until this week I though anything A or B was consigned to the scrapper/crusher. I'd never heard of a VIC and I assumed the DVLA were the authority on this, but it appears that HPi (owned by a claims handling firm) are the authority and until 2004...

My cat B car so far!

Had a chat with my insurance company today, he's been doing this a couple of decades and expalined the following:- The Thatcham Guideline for the Categorisation and Disposal of Motor Vehicle Salvage does state that Cat A and Cat B cars should (not must) never go back on the road. In the...

So as a result of my "trolling", you actually did find you needed to update your insurance details and were potentially uninsured. Great, it was a worthwhile exercise. Yet you still manage to be offensive. Maybe your number plates are more apt than you think.

My cat B car so far!

As long as you're happy you've got to the bottom of it that's great. I found very different with my vehicle and was instructed to remove it from use until such a time as it was inspected, but like I said that was around 2003 so at that time VIC hadn't yet been adopted. I find it very difficult...

    Diamond Parking Services Gatwick

That postcode covers approximately half a mile of the Regiate Road, move Google Earth a few inches north and you'll see a purpose built concrete compound with CCTV and 24 hr staff. There's even the photo thingy when you zoom in so you can see the gates and the parked cars.

My cat B car so far!

Clearly my input on this thread has caused upset, which wasn't my intention. Having been through a similar situation myself some years back I was caught unknowingly uninsured. So my interest was if there was valid insurance or not and using my past problems to point out to the OP that despite...

That's an engineers report or full vehicle inspection. The only company that can do that and have the category removed from HPi (other than Thatcham themselves) are these guys:- Autolign Inspections - Home

I get all the family cars dumped at my warehouse for duration of holidays, the downside of being right next to Gatwick...... Maybe I should offer a forum service, for a reasonable fee of course.

Just a point that might be worth checking (particularly with your broker), is what the case is for cars that were write offs before the VIC's were implemented, i.e. 2003. I think you'll find that you'll need an engineers inspection (with a firm like Autolign) despite having an MOT. You can't...

My cat B car so far!

VIC was only introduced in 2003, OP's car was total loss in 2000 so again, like the DVLA situation there was no requirement at the time to have this. For cars written off before 2003, an MOT is not proof of a VIC, it's proof that it passes an MOT which is not quite the same thing. Linky to the...

    Diamond Parking Services Gatwick

Holiday Inn Gatwick offer this. Then you get a shuttle bus from the hotel. The Hilton now charge for parking. Also - forget driving into the North Terminal at the moment, due to roadwaorks there it's chaos, it's quicker to go to the South Terminal and get the shuttle in the terminal.

Actually water damage makes sense in this case. A 1998 E55 would have been still quite valuable at 2 years old (when the total loss occured). So there's either a substantial amount of damage, a drowned car or possibly stolen recovered at a later date (or does stolen recovered have a different...
