    A180 W169 2.0 cdi 2006

Predictable response. This is what we're up against, people. Your circumstances are of no interest to me, nor are they an excuse to be driving 200 miles during a national lockdown. As for trolling, I've been a member of this forum for 6 years, you joined 8 days ago, just wanting advice after...

    A Class Engine Decisions

Correct. At the moment it's just the 1.5 Renault unit producing 114 BHP and 192 lb/ft torque, 'adequate'. There's sure to be a more powerful version within a few months. To Jack, I would say don't worry, these small modern turbo petrol units are a revelation. If you are used to a diesel, you...

    Tesco diesel

I work p/t at a Sainsburys Petrol station. 3 of the Flexigrid tanker drivers out of Grays, Essex, who cover the whole of the South East of England fill up at Sainsburys. They or us do not get any discount on fuel. I asked one of them about this subject. His answer is that all the 95 RON stuff...

    Another MPG thread!

Yes, they do. I work p/t hours at a Sainsburys petrol station. IIRC, winter diesel starts late October and runs through to early March. The OP's MPG sounds good to me, even if it has dropped recently. I assume he's confident it's not a dirty air filter or binding brakes etc?

    Seat Alpaca

John, don't discount the new Skoda Baroque (OK Karoq). Same as Ateca but apparently more supple suspension, and a little less road noise. Right, I'm off for a nice cheesy ram hole and a pike paw. (Seeing as we're into spoonerisms)

    B Class.....Discuss

With the model you're looking at, the B180 and B200 CDi have the same 2.0 litre engine, just in different states of tune. (109 vs. 136 BHP). The SE has a better wheel/tyre combo for a better ride. The 1.5 litre Renault engine came in much later in the current B Class and is in my opinion a...

    B Class.....Discuss

The previous B Class was a very close stretched relation to the previous A Class, so being told to avoid one and not the other doesn't make sense. Pretty refined, good ride if you avoid big wheels and ultra low profile tyres, nice interior, CVT auto box is good and gives few problems despite...

And they continue to deny any responsibility

Thanks for that CD. I'm not convinced. It implies that all the black smoke pumped out by HGVs and buses is less dangerous to health than the invisible NO2 emitted by cars. Not to mention the legions of rusty old Transits and the like knocking around; let's start with them. BTW, I'm not a big...

And they continue to deny any responsibility

Knighterrant, I understand your concern, but can you explain your sentence above? Why are HGV's, vans, buses, coaches, trains, tractors, boats and ships not to blame? What is it which makes diesel cars the main culprit?

    Help with vibration

Possibly, but worth checking. It may be that when not under load the small vibrations are being absorbed by the rubber and/or suspension. Take it back and get a Merc mechanic to ride along with you so you can demonstrate the issue.

    Help with vibration

I would start with rear wheel balance and get them to inspect the alloys and tyres at the same time, possibly a wheel out of 'true' or a tyre which is slightly oval. I wouldn't expect it to be a driveline or gearbox issue at that age and mileage.

    Thinking of selling the SLK

Keep the SLK AMG! Spend a little dosh on it to bring it up to mint condition (as befits a 34k car) and treat it as a semi/future classic. Then get a snotter to hoon around in too. :bannana:

    Servicing and warranty

Agree with markjay. Stick with the dealer until out of warranty. You might just need some goodwill later on.

Wheel Balance effect on ABC Pump, Hydraulic Suspension, Strut

Shameless advertising in my opinion - a friend of the Owner? Nothing new, anybody else old enough to remember the "on the car" wheel balancers? The operative would sit on a machine akin to a ride-on lawn mower, a motor would spin a roller which was applied to the side of the tyre and spun at...

    Rear Fog Lights

Agree with zipdip and 190. One of my bugbears. Sorry 12ts, but rear foglights should only be used in fog. Heavy rain causes a halo effect making visibility worse. Even in fog it's arguable whether you need them on if you are in a motorway procession. Save them for A and B roads when nothing is...

My mum and dad are looking at a 1.5 A160 CVT, are they good cars?

No, all A Classes, W169, with the auto option were CVTs. No gear changes, but 7 'virtual' gears if you opt to use the manual mode.

    Thinking of buying W169

Oh, I think the one you like is in Hessle? Looks great but not MB dealer. The nearest I can see is a smaller engined 2011 A160 Avantgarde at MB Doncaster, little trip down the M18? (I went to university in Hull!) Or you could look at the seller's warranty or an aftermarket one and make sure it...

    Thinking of buying W169

Hey Scott, I thought you were looking for an S40 over on Honest John!! I went from the S40 to an A180 CDi auto as I wanted to keep the diesel engine, but combine it with an automatic gearbox and no particle filter. We've had ours 15 months and had a few unexpected problems, which thankfully...
