glovebox

I revoved the screws in my 97E300D and the top of the box wont freely come out. I removed the screws around the glovebox lite and it still feels as there should be one more screw or a latch tha is holding the box in place. All I want to do is replace the cabin air filters. Any Help would be...

I currently use my Ipaq PDA with Tom Tom navigator (wired) with power from the cigarette lighter socket. It all works perfectly etc except that the power to the socket is off when the keys are removed which is a pain because I often need to reset the PDA to then put in the next postcode...

Is this a daft question? What is the little removable gadget in the glovebox for? My last car didn't have one and I can't see anything in the handbook, could this be what is making my horn beep?:)
