Does a BRAND NEW STILL IN BAG key have to be programmed by main dealer, or can an indy with Star do it ???

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but does anyone know how much a key costs from MB Dealer? it has no chip init and its for 1989 230e. Timpsons cant cut nothing these idiots got one cut and all it does is open doors cant even turn it in the ignition barrel!!!!:wallbash:

I only ever use one car kay. The other (my spare) is tucked up safely in my safe. However, I have read that MB keys can stopp working if not used for a while. Is this true? And if so after how long roughly? Because if it is then I will rotate the key that I use.
