It sits on top behind the thermostat

Looks like a broken temperature sensor to me. That's where the temperature sensors for the cluster and fuel injection are fitted, along with the fan switch for locking up the electromagnetic clutch on the cooling fan.

Could you post a clearer picture - not so zoomed in and from straight on/above at the front

Yes,it's the temp sensor,or was.
