450 SEL 6.9 restoration

Wow!!! Your local MB dealer, or whoever you've got parts from must love you! I've had Mercs for some time now and always impressed by the availability of replacement parts, but not always the cost, for older cars.

Almost bought a 450SEL in about '83, but it wouldn't fit in the drive, let alone the garage, so ended up with a 230/4. Always had at least one since.

I notice no mention of £££'s but almost irrelavent, and irrevernet, when talking about a classic like this.

Fantastic car and I bet you can't wait to drive it on the road.

Those old reservoirs ( coolant, brake fluid and washer) need replacement!! Spoils the gleaming look otherwise

Simply amazing.
Of all the cars I have ever driven, the 450 SEL 6.9 is still the one I bore, sorry, talk about the most.

theres one parked in muswell hill completely dilapidated.
pieces of Mercedes history and heritage.

My grandmother had a green one of these new. Got hit (driver's side on) by a truck running a red light. Remember her being told that if she'd been in any other car she'd have been a goner... Great car.

My dad had a 350 one of these OJC434M anyway of finding out if its still about?

tony.

Incredible car - the ultimate mercedes barge!

Fantastic. Enjoyed the article in Mercedes Enthusiast on these this month. Would love one one day.

The difference I have noticed is that stripes width on ribbed velour is smaller than on my existing velour.
They explain to me that now is only one velour available for 116 and 126 so its sort of in between

Yes I approached them for green velour for a W123 and the same thing. It really is not close enough for a repair.
What did you decide to do?

He has had the whole interior re-trimmed with the newer velour type.

The car is nearing completion now so hopefully we'll be seeing some new updates soon.

Latest from the 6.9 . Might not be the best photos as I just copied them from my phone: image-3763138405.jpg image-3763138405.jpg

Looks beautiful ...totally timewarp.

Did he not have a picture of the whole car?

Had a 6.9 back in the 80's didn't keep it for long, couldn't live with the single digit economy.

but it would eat 911,s for breakfast down the M4

I hadn't seen this thread previously, it's a great restoration.

I appreciate He does this as s bit of an indulgence, but how does the final value stack up against what has been spent, both in money and time?

Betting on horses would probably lose only a bit more, but wouldn't really take any time.

That's not a criticism, as it is what the owner wants to do, but I would be surprised if it was financially viable, even against buying one already done. That's always the conundrum when doing up old cars.
