A160 CDI W169 Problems with codes

Hi All,

Go easy on me first time posting.

My car was running fine now it does not accelerate past 70mph. Runs rough and the exhaust brings a 'tear to the eye'.

Have a few problems with codes to see if anyone can shed more light:

I have the following codes with the error descriptions:
P2242 - One or more signals sent from control Unit N47-5 (ESP and BAS control module) via the CAN bus is implausible

P2208 - CAN signal 'brake signal' from control unit N10 (SAM control unit) is implausible.

P2355 Check System 'exhaust gas recirculation control'

I assume that the P2355 is an EGR hose pipe or blocked pipe so will take that apart this weekend and clean /replace.

The first two errors I cannot find a suitable solution for (unless they are related to P2355 error).

Does anyone know of any thing to check?

Good morning and welcome.

A lot of errors relating to BAS /ESP can be caused by a faulty brake light switch, this can be the case even if your brake lights are working. There are other sensors that relate to these systems that can also cause problems though.

A proper Star diagnostic would be a good way to check things in more depth, do you have an MB independent nearby?

by 'MB independant' I am not too sure. There are independant garages, will look to see if any are MB specialist.

Would like to look and fix the car myself (within reason) nothing gives more satisfaction. Is it better to buy a Star diagnostic unit? does it give much more detailed information?

Anyone have a Star diagnostic unit to check this car out for me in surrey? Willing to pay, don't mind checking out the reading before buying one (looks expensive on fleabay).

You can buy a Star system but these can be very expensive, especially if you want the software updated regularly.

Star is the customised software developed by Mercedes for servicing and fault finding and is far more involved and complex than the relatively simple OBD scan tools, many systems on the car can only be fully investigated with Star.

Not sure where in Surrey you are but there are a number of well respected MB independents in and around London. one is :Mercedes Benz & Smart Specialists | Prestige Car Service | Horndean, Hampshire

It would save you a lot of tie and money to get a proper diagnosis.
