Auto box playing silly buggers

Hi All,

I have a major problem

I drove my wife into town 2 hours ago and my 2001 E320 CDI auto box started jumping between gears :fail

I then collected my son from the airport 20 minutes ago and it drove fine. I parked and put the car in park, but didn't turn the engine off. I left the airport and the car was stuck in 1st gear. I pulled into a lay by and turn off the engine.

I then restarted and drove off and it worked fine the whole 5 miles home

I have absolutely no idea why this has happened

You need to get it pin a star diagnostic computer and read the codes stored in the tcu and ecu

I have no idea if the gear box oil and filter was ever changed, unfortunately.
It is on my to do list.
Is it possible that it could be the oil and filter or even low oil?

It could also be something entirely different. Like Mr. Benz270 says, get it on a STAR.
