CLC200 2009
I have a 2009 CLC. The door mirrors do not fold in automatically when the car is locked. Does this mean my car does not have this feature or it needs enabling? I looked in the manual and it couldn't be done using the On-board computer. I'm guessing because of this mine is not able to? Thanks.

This feature can be enabled using MB STAR diagnostic computer. You'll need to go see an Indie who has STAR. Once this feature is enabled, you will have an additional option in the instrument cluster menu that will allow you to switch it off or on. However, it is not recommended to leave it on all the time, because the wires inside the mirror housing can break due to excessive use.

Provided they electrically fold from the switch on the drivers door then they can be programmed to fold/unfold on lock/door opening.

Its a service we offer; Mercedes Retrofit Specialist - Comand.co.uk

That`s not good :(

There does not seem to be a manual switch inside the vehicle, and also I couldn't see any 'convenience menu'. Seems mine does not do it then?

The switch on a CLC is above the headlight switch. No switch means no electric fold. The menu item appears once the car is coded for auto folding.

Also the digital speedo display above the clock is in KPH can it be changed to MPH, or is that only with the 'Star' thingy!?

I think you are thinking about 'UK Mode Delete' which Alfie should be able to do as well (using STAR).

My folding mirrors have a button to manually pull them in and out, can be done while driving too! You can interrupt and have them dance.

Mine's a 57 plate. I've never turned the feature off, and still going strong... The mirrors are easy to remove and repair if you've got a soldering iron anyway if it did wear out. I wouldn't worry either.

Is a 2009 CLC not the same as a 07-11 W204 C?

I just set mine on or off in the convenience menu on the dash display.

I like the auto fold.

I've heard all the horror stories about crimped wiring etc., if they do break I'll fix them.

On my main screen it`s in kph but if you scroll through to speed, then it`s in mph...don`t waste money having the main one changed if you have it in mph on the speed screen. I wasn`t told I may have this when I emailed the Comand guys....they just wanted my money.

I hope you are not talking about Alfie or Richard from www.comandonline.co.uk?

They are the most professional and honset people I know... they have done fantastic work on both my previous W203 and my current W204 (which is with them as we speak). They are 100% trustworthy. I can't praise them enough.

I assume you are either mistaken, or referring to another firm?

With all due respect, can someone else not have had a different experience (which was not so positive) with the same company than yourself?? Or are they immediately mistaken or not telling the truth :dk:

This :thumb: Folding mirrors didn't work when I bought my C320 and this was the issue. Easy fix but better not having to.

Abb,

Cymruambyth is most certainly entitled to post his opinion and his experience.

I just added my own experience... which, as you can see, is very different to his.

I would also like to add that the first job I had done by Alfie and Richard on my car was in 2010, and that my experience with them is based on several projects carried-out over several years, as opposed to a single phone call.

Just to add some balance and context to Cymruambyth's own experience as posted by him.

EDIT: And, there's still the possibility that we was referring to another firm altogether....? We'll know when he responds.

I can second this, i have 3 mirror mount frames with trashed wiring from using this, one actually cut through the loom with the toothed gear arm, like a saw

I haven't fixed them yet, but will have to, my plan is to re-route the wiring so that it is not folded into a hairpin shape when the mirror is in the normal use position, and to possibly unwrap it a bit so that it's not so tightly restrained in the loom

EDIT:
forgot to add, what usually breaks first in the wiring is the indicator and then the mirror adjustment movement, sometimes the mirror heating goes after that, but the heating wires are slightly separate to the main loom so can sometimes survive

Use auto folding if you need it.

Just to reinforce the point made earlier.

By all means use the feature if you need it, e.g. routinely parking on narrow streets.

But be aware that many Mercs (the W211 being the most obvious), get wiring fails after regular use of auto folding.

It shouldn't be so, but it is...

I spoke to someone on the phone near to me that has a star machine and he said to change the KMH to MPH it is possible to do it in the menus and the star is not needed. I looked through the menus but couldn't find anything. Any ideas how anyone please?
