Everyone still calls my usual dealership Hughes of Beaconsfield - they've been there since 1955 and old habits die hard.

However, my current car came from Mercedes-Benz of Mayfair (now Fiat Marylebone), which was an outpost (or should that be inpost?) of MB Chelsea (Bradshaw and Webb) and nothing to do with the previous Normand showrooms in Park Lane and Piccadilly.

The list does not seem to be in any order , not A-Z by either location or dealer name .

The list also reflects many changes after the original dealers changed hands - in some cases more than once - during bouts of 'empire building ' .

For example - the Glasgow dealers were always Callanders Engineering .

Perth was Dickson's of Perth

Dundee was Camperdown motor company

Aberdeen was either Callanders or Dickson's

Inverness was Dickson's

Glen Henderson in Ayr is now an approved service centre

There was another service centre in Airth

and a satellite of one of the dealers in Cupar

Road Range Pier Head closed down a number of years ago to make way for a new development. They moved to a newly purpose built building on Pall Mall. Which is bigger and better. This was then renamed MB Liverpool

Road Range West Kirby (not mentioned) part of the same group closed down a number of years now and is still derelict.

Two of the guys from Road Range West Kirby then decided to work together and opened an Indi garage not too far away in Hoylake. They call themselves MB Wirral. A good bunch of very knowledgeable guys.

OK , I have dug out and scanned a couple of my Service booklets which were supplied with various cars - a 1969 edition and a 1987 edition . I think I have an older one somewhere and will add that if and when I find it .

It is interesting to note that many of the smaller service stations listed in the earlier book had disappeared by 1987 , and that many of the older independent dealerships had by then been absorbed into some of the larger groups .

My friend owned a mercedes-benz dealership in worcester from 1989-2002 called Stirling Of Worcester Ltd his first showroom was in the city and then he built his very own dealership on the outskirts of the town in 1997 which he owned until 2002 when Mercedes bought them out. very good dealership!
Before 1989 he worked for the dealership which was then Howells Of Worcester Ltd
