c350 cdi
Would just like to say for the direct and non-direct advice gained from this forum from various people aiding me in my purchase.

I now have a 2010 c350cdi with quite a few extras on which I bought privately for a great price.

My only comparison is with an Audi b7 s-line, but so far the MB is in a different league. The ride comfort, with the dynamic handling pack, is great and I am no longer avoiding bad surfaces, I don't even notice them.

The panoramic roof is very nice and given the black headlining quite welcome.

The HK Logic 7 setup is so much better than BOSE in the Audi. Bose in my opinion is typically American - making a loud noise with an indiscreet subwoofer to try and overcome lack of depth in the speakers.

Overall, I'm loving it. My only slight issue, is the gearbox lag which appears to be a common complaint. My local friendly independent says that in the near future they will be able to remap it once MB let them. Anyone got any ideas?

My car was registered July 2010 and I can see from the original spec sheet that 3 years of free map upgrades were included in the Comand order. However, even though this car has been serviced at Brooklands, the map version I have is 2009/10 and its only 5 digit postcode.

Am I within my rights to ask my local dealer (not Brooklands) to update the maps as they were not done? and would he update my software to 7 digit postcodes?

Thanks again,

Bill

Seems about right to me. :)

I wouldn't say you had a 'right' to have it updated. MB offer to update it free of charge, but, certainly in my experience, you have to request it.

Your local dealer might take a favourable view........

That's great news, make sure you get some pictures up !

AFAIK you won't be able to get 7 digit postcode on that version of comand, but worth a try with the dealer regarding map updates.

Get the Gearbox adaptations re-set this could help with the lag, most dealers/independent Merc specialists can do this.

Thanks people.

Have just been out on my own so properly tested the stereo and can definitely vouch for the HK speakers. However I have a common complaint and that is the parcel shelf rattle at high bass/volume. Seems slightly strange to mount good speakers this badly. Just wonder if something has worked its way loose, or (more likely) its a slight design fault. Anyone tried the old sock/tennis ball trick?

As for the lag, the Sport button on the dash seems to help a fair bit from a standing start and a bit less when rolling. Yes I have just been having a bit of a tear up, although I was done by an RS3...

I've got the HK on mine and can't say I've noticed a rattle, so probably worth looking for something loose or try adjusting the bass/treble settings.

The gearbox pulls away in 2nd gear in comfort and 1st in sport. I believe the Gearbox adapts to your driving style so you should notice a bit of a difference over time.

Sorry, rattle is the wrong word. It's a vibration. Im talking high volume, high bass. It's as if the shelf isn't quite man enough for the job. If I put some weight on it, it gets better. My instinct is padding/ packing it out better. Might ask dealer if there is know problem when I ask about navigation updates.

Agreed sport will take you off in 1st instead of 2nd, really important in hilly areas (if you dont like tiptronic like me)

Im surprised you were done by a S3, I have done one in my 270

RS3 is quicker again though.

Get a sprintbooster fitted - big difference and eliminates the lag, makes driving much more pleasurable... If you add a remap as well then...:bannana:

Not an s3, it was an RS3...

TBH going through a city centre I wasn't really prepared to go racing and lose my license. Leave racing to the W*****s who drive Audi's with their giant wheels and S*** ride.......I should know I have one.

I think I have solved the lag issue. As I put my foot down, if I drop a couple of gears with the steering wheel paddles it takes off pretty sharpish.

If you hold the down shift paddle for a few seconds it drops it the lowest possible gear :thumb:

Great choice :thumb:
