Hi, I am new here

Has anyone else had this done as my insurance company wont cover me now its had a modification, even though it was done by a MB dealer

Also I feel its not worth the £1600 if you have the 'sports' pack which I already has, as it seems to duplicate that setting

Any other views are most welcome and interesting!

ok, third post of you talking about the chip......
you did say that your mpg was a load better with the chip, wonder how long it will take you to recoupe the cost in fuel spent/saved.

Sorry, I am new to this forum, so dont know which subject I should be writing my question under

I did it for the claimed performance gain, but to be honest it doesnt seem to make it much better then when the car is driven in sports mode. I have noticed an improvement in fuel economy, but the thing is, is I have a 10 day free trial. If I dont like it, I take the car back and they remove the chip, put it back to how it was and refund me in full. So I was wondering if anyone else has had it done and long term, are they happy?

And no insurance cover??

Thats the issue, I have to change insurance companies if I decide to keep the chip. Direct line (surprisingly) were the cheapest ones that allow for modifications

I can recommend Direct Line :)

They have always given me a competitive quote and dealt with my 3 (no fault) claims promptly..

Yes, they were cheapest when I had my TVR's ..even better than these so called performance specialist insurers!

I have just gone to Adrian Flux, you get a discount for being a member on this forum. and if you are a member of either of the owners clubs.

Always found that Direct line where more expensive along with Aviva and Tesco compared to others- I was told by Hastings last year that they wouldn't cover a chip - that was underwritten by Equity red star. The new policy is underwritten by NIG which is actualy part of RBS - same as Direct line are

I haven't installed the brabus chip yet on my E320cdi but they told me it would be an extra 1-200 if I went ahead.

I think you've answered your own question and you should get your money back!

I took it back and had it removed...it was just duplicating the sports mode. I have the optional sports agility pack on my 250cdi and having the Brabus chip was like driving with the sports button on all the time.....in the end it was aa teeny bit quicker, slightly better fuel economy, but worth £1600? Naahh

I have heard though the chip makes a big difference to the bigger engined cars....

No, the sports mode adjust suspension settings and throttle 'response' but it does not increase engine output like a Brabus (or any other type of chip/re-map) does.

I would agree that a marginal increase in performance is not worth £1,600 though.

Cheers Mark. I am aware that the sports mode doesnt actually increase power! I find that in sports mode, because it holds the gears longer, and makes the throttle more responsive, the car felt quicker. With the Brabus chip, it does of course add more bhp (only about 28 more) but is barely noticeable compared with sports mode. In fact when I had the chip in the car, when I pressed the sport button there was no difference whatsoever (apart from the ride stiffening). I just felt for £1600 it didnt give me the wow factor i was led to believe

I am sure if someone has a 220 or 250 without the agility sports pack they would notice a difference, but for me I just hit the sports button and save myself £1600!

I've not driven a Brabus chipped 250 but IMO in general was that I've never been overly impressed with there upgrades. You could only barely feel it on 320s, at a higher rev range & higher speeds.

If you want a bigger increase in power go and have a REVO, Custom Code, GIAC or a similar manufacturer re-map your ECU software. For anywhere between £3-500 you can get something you'll feel.
