Hi
As I channel hopped, caught a Wheeler Dealers advert, new series on Discover channel 520 Sky - 21-00 hrs Monday 9/5/16

The big guy was giving a bit of lip to shorty, about time too.

:D

PS, getting a bit boring now but I'm still hooked

Would love to know how much per hour the grease monkey charges cos they always sell to someone for a low price...

HA HA I think its very addictive viewing but he is a bodge merchant. I've seen each episode so many times.

Brewer & China, total pap !!! never puts all the x's on like travel costs, advertising costs, etc, good tv, but very poor business model, making a decent living from car trading is not as easy as some would have you believe:D

I like it, it's entertaining and gives me a break from the corrie, emmerdale enders pap that's otherwise on in this household.

To satisfy my curiosity I have checked on DVLA site for a lot of the cars they 'restore', and it's running about 50/50 as to how many are still registered. OK, they might have had personalised plates put on them, but I wouldn't have thought that many?

A lot of them get shipped abroad. They brought some back for the classic car show at the NEC last year quite a few had US plates on.

It's a TV show, not real life.. :D

Most people still think documentaries and nature programs are also real

Thanks for the heads up, I like the show especially when they have a car on that I like!

Agreed it's pretty much scripted so would take their figures with a pinch of salt

Absolutely - look at the silly 'profit' figures claimed in other shows like the ones where they auction tat from storage containers. Just have to enjoy the cars and suspend disbelief.

Just watched How not to do DIY, if anyone can be as stupid as some of these jerks is beyond me. I know it is only a TV programme but what a load of crap.

The idea was that you do the work yourself, maybe partly as a hobby so no labour. However, this was ok in the early days until Edd got £1m+ of tools in his workshop!

Agree - I like it as light entertainment even though there's not much reality about it. By all accounts Mr China has a pretty successful garage business and built many "novelty" cars years back. Don't like what they did to the 57 Chevy much although the range of cars they tackle is interesting.

The original premise of the show, was to show what your "average" enthusiast could achieve, with a reasonably stocked tool kit.

They still do take time to state "if you took this to your local garage it would be likely to cost you £xx"

They also do say with some bits "take it to a specialist". Gearboxes being a favourite.

I enjoy it for what it is and have learned some great tips & tricks from it.

I am (are we not all) jealous of Ed China's, tool collection. Being in the process of restoring my 124 4-Matic, tools (or a lack of) are one of things that can hold you up big time. Trying to do simple jobs with the wrong tool can be costly. I have knuckle skin all over the garage as a result of bodging things with incorrect tools. I also have an impressive collection of "used only once" tools. These are the ones that nobody stocks and they cost more than any other tool required.

Aye, and the fact that stupid things like drain plugs are never the same between manufacturers/groups. hex, star, normal bolts. Although they'll often say you need a specialist tool when it's just a big hex nut or something.

I've also got strips of different tools and bits that I've had to buy for particular cars and never used.

That said I was epically chuffed that the litre of CH1 fluid I bought 4 years ago for a VW Bora, and used like 10ml of, could be used in the Merc for the PSU.

I love the show, one of the few programs i watch on sky. I met Mike in Sheffield a couple of years ago at his dealership. A real down to earth bloke, we had quite a long chat about cars and tv programs as it was just after Trading up had been aired. He had time for everyone that showed up to meet him :thumb:

I do still watch it as have always been a fan, mainly of Edd. A few months back I saw their official FB page so decided to add 'Wheeler Dealers' to keep up to date with the boys outside of the shows airing times (between series). Very disappointing. Their FB team/person should be shot as all it has is around 20 posts a day to silly unrelated videos and when questioned it has the same reply. It is definitely the correct page as Mike and Edd have done some 'Live' videos from it.

Let's hope the new series is good

I would of thought they get most if not all the tools for free as free advertising all the tool boxes and tools are teng tools. Plus he has around 4 roll cabs which for one person just aint needed, we fix everything from cars to 200t mobile cranes in our workshop and when i mean fix i mean we do everything engine rebuilds, gearboxes diffs, transmissions even making wiring looms and hydraulics and we dont have half the stuff lying around the workshop ed does. Im not putting the show down in anyway im just saying that its probably sponsored by a tool manufacturer. Il make a predectuon if it gets lots and lots of new viewers the tools you will see will all be snap on even guy martin is now sponsored by them.

Just in case members missed this thread, back to the top, and:

I agree with most of what has been said her, EG:

Never include all the costs, most obvious labour cost. Mot, advertsisng, travel costs when-bought in the uk.

I am hooked an seen the LDH Porsche several times as well as the MB 230E like the one my dad had about 25 yrs ago, BM6 in red,

Btw, the adverts are so long that most of the shows i watch are sky plused dso i skip the adverts.

The more recent programmes, that little bloke advertises at a certain price then asks for more, not right imo.

Finally, I'd like to see the big guy floor the little guy as he can be so sarcastic to the big fella.

Btw, Top Gear back soon on BBC but I cant stand Mr Evans or that little American bloke

Sorry re typos, worn out, goodnight
