Hi guys,

I am in quite a predicament here and I really hope you guys can help me out. I am really interested in buying a CL and I was keen on buying a CL65 because of numerous reasons but mainly how many chances do you really get to buy arguable the best 6.0 V12 Bi turbo in the business.

However, after putting a deposit on one and telling the dealer Ill be back from abroad in 12 days and him agreeing to wait. I happily rang him up to find out he had sold it. No call no email no voicemail no message and some excuse of how he couldn't get a hold of me and neither could the manager.

Now in my disappoint and in the great lack of CL65 in the UK. I am turning to a CL63 not that its not an absolutely amazing car but I have the feeling of compromise between the two. Even though I wont really make use of the extra horsepower since the cars are mostly capped to road speeds (and slightly over speeding by mistake once in a while ;) ). I just feel like I wont be getting the best the car has to offer. Like I understand that other than the quilted seats and the engine there is no difference but I LOVE quilted leather and the engine to me is one the greatest ever.

What would you guys recommend? should I wait it out indefinitely in hopes of another? or get a CL63? Its just that I have had the same Toyota for 13 years now and I was really looking to treat myself after saving up for so long.

I haven't driven either so I cant say much on the topic but I think you guys would be the best to ask about a question like this. I really have tried to find C216 on the internet Pre 2011 facelift because I cannot afford it (I know there is one available) and I really HATE the design changes to the outside it completely ruins the car for me those headlights and tail lights are horrendous.

So what would you guys recommend? I posted a wanted for a CL65 here (its the reason I made an account actually)and I search for one everyday but do you guys think I should bite the bullet and get a CL63?

I would love to hear your thoughts and if any of you have a C216 CL65 that you are interested in selling please contact me or if you know off one or even a member I could ask that would be amazing.

Thank you!

Shezy

I've driven a 65 on a track and it's the best big coupe out there bar none. Like you, I've been keeping an eye on the market for one but at the moment and for the past few months there's a shortage of them. My opinion - don't compromise and keep looking. If you must, get a 63 bi-turbo. You're not limited to the road only. Top speed events is where full weight big engined AMGs shine.

So in short:

65 - Definitely Yes
63 TT - Hmmm Maybe
63 N/A - Categorically No. Wrong chassis unless you supercharge it.

PS: There's a 600 if you want a V12 but it will only make you want the 65 even more. Epic engine though so a possible stop gap?

Like Alex says, if the 65 is your target, anything less will be a compromise and us petrol heads don't like compromise, do we? These types of purchases are made completely with the heart, imagine how you'd feel if you did buy the V8 and then miraculously pulled up alongside a V12 at the traffic lights or on the motorway; id be devasted!

The CL65 is the pinnacle of Mercedes and if there's even the slightest chance to buy one I'd hang on because one will definitely appear it's just whether you've got the patience.

:thumb: And a remap on the 600 turns it up to what it was designed for, the Mercedes Engineers were horrified when the 275 performance figures came out:eek: and turned it down so as not to out perform the new partnership with AMG i.e. the 55 platform.:D

NB I refer to the older models

Absolutely. Known fact that the 600 is undertuned from the factory. Not to mention that the current Mercedes VMax record holder is a SL600 ;)

190mph with the roof down:eek: 198mph roof up:D

+1 What they all said.
I was looking for an E63 last year but couldn't find the right car. I bought a BMW instead. 6 months later and I've got rid of it and got the E63 I should have bought in the first place. Luckily it didn't end up costing me a bucketful of cash to change, but I did have to drive a BMW for 6 months.

Would definitely recommend buying a cl63 Shezy cos I am also on the hunt for a 2007 CL65;)

I looked at the CL65 at Saxton 4x4 for weeks and never got to see it
Rare rare beasts so I think you'll look a long time
My MB contacts say stay away from the V12's as they are problematic
Indeed I am going to look at a 2007 CL63 and the sellers friends have a CL65 and a CL600
Both are nightmares

I checked all the usual sites for CL65 AMGs pretty much every day for 6 months or so, and went to see a few including the Saxton car. Unfortunately they very rarely come up for sale, and the condition of the cars I travelled to see were very poor, surprisingly so.

I decided that it wasn't the right car for me right now, and bought something else. For me it had to be the 65 however the later 63 with 5.5TT would almost as good, and as fast in the real world (but maybe not on the airfield).

Yes, the W216 Facelift ( 2011 - ) V8 5.5 Twin Turbo is the one to have :thumb:

You have to find out now ;)

Congrats on the purchase. Got any pics?

What was wrong with the Saxton car ? I had it in mind and finally decided to look at it when it disappeared presume sold. Did you go to see the one in Preston? High spec including fridge but tatty - also now seems to have been sold.

Can we be more specific on nightmare?
V12 yes had problems but in w215 chassis, w216 never heard problems only amazing reviews.....

Cl65

Nightmares ?

Not really - sorry just a comment

One specialist dealer I know says that the V12 and S65/CL65 are just too complicated for their own good
Way to many things to go wrong and with no warranty its a gamble

:) Gamble like with any other car....maybe on this occasion bit more painful for the wallet but hey we live only once and will not take money with us when the time will come
