I was passing a merc specialists today, so thought I'd ask him for a price for a B service, which isn't due for a few months yet. The price wasn't too bad, but he also said that it'd need spark plugs at £197 + vat. This seemed a bit steep, but a quick eBay search found these. it says they're genuine mercedes plugs, from a mercedes dealer in newcastle. if this is the case then the specialist won't be getting any of my hard earned or putting their oily tools anywhere near my car

Did the dealer price include fitting, or was it supply only? If the former then it's probably including an hours labour, which I would think would be about right on this car.

If supply only, then definitely buy them from MB Newcastle, who normally have other good deals knocking around, particularly on oil from time to time.

Doesn't it take 16 like my '55?

Sounds like a good price if it does & include labour

Thought M156 has only one plug per cylinder.

If you thought that was bad I'd hate to see the dealership price, have you even filled in that EIS thing to see what needs doing?

Yeh, he must've done that, when I asked him for the service price, he asked for the reg and said he'd see what needed doing and disappeared to his office for 5 mins

It can be done yourself if unsure, on the mercedes website

Many on here will have a list of decent independents, it might be worth asking for one local

If not, service plan from mercedes is only £45 IIRC. Probably worth it being a facelift and not that old. Especially as the next one she is a B service it seems a good point to start a 3-year plan (B-A-B service)

I thought it only can be A-B-A ???

No, you can take out a 3-year plan whether the next service is an A or B.

Just started a 3-year plan on my wife's SLK55 and that's just had its first A-service.

Or you can take a 2 year plan. How many spark plugs are needed just 8?

Yep no brainer to do B A B.
