C63 or gtr??

I'd go for the GTR given that choice.

Chalk and cheese.

The GTR is massive but what a presence.

I had a gtr "black edition" (iirc) for a morning last week. Tuned to 600bhp apparently. I'll be honest, the performance was terrifying. Awesome machine, but I couldn't live with it - i might as well put my licence in the shredder right now.

That's what puts me off - not to mention stuff breaking on it without a warranty (and so I'd have to have a warranty no matter what).

They're pretty different cars, really. You'd do well to shoehorn a couple of big kids in the back of a GTR for any length of time, let alone adults with decent sized front seat passengers.

If I didn't need any practicality, I'd love a GTR. Not sure if it's the most refined of vehicles for every day use though (but I'd live with it).

Contender for biggest car with smallest cabin, surely? :)

I guess it is no better/worse than most other big coupes

I've recently come out of a C55 into a GT-R which has a stage 2 Litchfield pack. I know the C63 is faster than the C55, but in all honesty, the GTR is not on another level of performance, it's another dimension altogether. It is so fast that it seems to shift time itself. It's frankly impossible to describe it. You may think you can imagine it, but trust me - you just can't unless you go in one. And then, like me, your life will be incomplete until you get one. My daily barge is now a V8 4.2 litre Audi A8. Despite weighing about 17 tons, it's not a slouch at 6 seconds, but stepping from one to the other, speed wise, is like stepping out of a 1987 Fiesta into a C63.
Despite some of the above comments, I'd say the GTR is a capable daily car and perfectly possible to pootle along - although will never be relaxed and scares pedestrians even with fairly modest right foot. 6 monthly services, tyre costs and fuel make for unhappy reading, but if you can stretch to 2012 car intervals drop to annually I think. Avoid main dealers and find a good specialist.

Agreed. Chalk and cheese. 2 door versus 4 door etc.

I love the GTR, and it's on the list to add to my collection over the next year. Toying between a Conti GT, GTR and DB9. All different cars, and all different. I personally want it around 750bhp though!

The one I was looking at was a litchfield black series if that means anything to anyone? I'm in the process of doing a bit of homework on the gtr so I know a bit more. I know the early ones had bell housing issues but that's about all I know. I barely use my car so not so bothered about running costs. 75% of me wants to keep the c63 as I've hardly drove it since I got it and I'm certainly not bored with the power. + I've not had it mapped yet. But!! The 25% child in me is saying "get the gtr now you can afford it" lol.

Also I think the c63 is a lovely looking car! Whereas the gtr has that ugliness but likeable look. When I show my wife gtr skylines on eBay or nobles she just gives me the look and says mid life crises!! Lol

The bell housing issue is a simple fix so wouldn't worry too much with regards to this.

Not sure on the "Black series" I thought their upgrades came in stages 1 - 5 I think.

No doubting it's a car from another world performance wise, treat yourself this afternoon and go test drive it you honestly won't be disappointed :D:thumb:

You may have read a few dozen complaints about creaky dashboards and rattles in a C63...well, the GTR is the rattle king!
Fisher price comes to mind.
The interior is more power rangers than prestige car.

No doubt the car is unbelievably fast but if I had to have just one car, I couldn't live with a GTR and if I was buying a second car for fun/the weekends, I'd get something that would actually be fun without instantly losing my licence.

If I just want a car for track days or bragging rights - the GTR fits the bill.

I have recently just purchased my c63 and I absolutely love it. Although the gtr is faster and a much much better car for the track, if it's just for road use a c63 will not disappoint at all. Pulls great in every gear and not to mention the sound of it! My friend has owned many cars in the past including f430, db9, a gallardo and so on. But taking everything into account, power, sound, practicality and the fun factor, he says as an all rounder you can't beat the Merc. I would say road use the c63, if you are heading to the track at weekend, gtr. At the end of the day it's all down to personal preference. A great dilemma to have though! :)

Reading this, I'd say JFDI

If you get a desirable one, like I said above, you can always move it on if it doesn't work...

Some cars are only possible at certain times in life, if this is one then don't ignore

Lol I will go and try n get a test drive! Watch this space.

Pure 'out of this world' speed and performance - GTR
Comfort, build quality, reliability, looks, 4 doors family friendly, running costs, enough speed to comfortably lose your license - C63

Great comparative overview...

I think its gotta be the GTR...imagine the car with this 1000HP off the shelf upgrade... (the upgrade is circa £50k)

Owned a GT-R, now own a C63. Wish I still had the GT-R.

I had a stage 4 (650 bhp) gtr......stupidly fast and a good drive BUT far too big for country roads and too ott for true day to day driving

and just too fast for the road....we are talking jail speeds!

That's the danger isn't it. Have a 'play' with something of similar ability and you are well into triple figures before you can say Jack S**t and it's time to hand over the licence and lube up.

Indeed.......I was glad to sell my gtr and have never had a desire to own another tbh

The same cannot be said of my e92 m3 which I loved, and I also love my current c63

If speed means a lot to you, get a gtr.......if it's more about the pleasure of driving a car at legal(ish) speeds get the c63

A GT-R is more than just about speed. It is about the whole driving package focused to the nth degree.
It is probably the most useable of the hardcore cars.
It is about a maverick attitude .It is an outsider kicking ass.Big time. And then some.It is cheap at twice the price.
It is a car women will never understand.Good!
But i agree not everyone needs/wants the crazy performance.
