What does my C220cdi have to drive the camshaft - is it a belt or chain. And what are the service requirements and replacement intervals?
Thanks, David

Chain. No service interval but there is a stretch measurement but I wouldn't worry until at least 200k or more.

join the chain gang

190s and v8s

Unless its a SINGLE CHAINED early 190 or a V8 ENGINED CAR from the 80s. they have been known to let go at about 60K miles. Probably the only weak mechanical fault on these engines.;)

The V8s had double-throw timing chains - it wasn't so much these but the chain tensioner and guide rail that failed.

Are these engines good for 200k? If something does go - what does it tend be?

227000 miles and chain still noise free.

Fan belt tensioner

Injectors, inlet manifold flaps stick, glow plugs, ancillaries, turbo, MAF sensor, fuel pump. The basic engine will see the lot out.

also A class engines (I mean both diesel and petrol)?
thanks:)

I've heard some Merc water pumps can go early due to plastic impellors, but I've no idea which engines other than the OM606 have them.
