To stop the squawking at night and keeping Dad, the soldier, up all night; the MO solution was a teaspoon of good French brandy in the milk bottle or cocoa before bed.
My youngest brother stated many years later to my parents "You gave us alcohol before bedtime"!
Yes to keep you little buggers quiet at night--Didn't do you lot any harm did it!~
Of course in our new granny society this would be tantamount to child abuse!
