Hey people,

I have a2008 s320 which has done 70000 miles.
It is all ok but when I accelerate hard there is a cloud of smoke from the exhaust. Should I use an additive in the fuel to clean the engine. If so which one?

Thanks

type that in Amazon, it's got a lot of good reviews.

I just found the product on Google. C'mon.
Thanks again.

bg244
http://www.bgfleming.com/products/msds/244.pdf

ingredients
Petroleum Naphtha
Stodart Solvent [ dry cleaning solvent]
Naphthalene [ main ingredient of moth balls]
1,2,4 Tri-Methyl Benzene

So basically a mixture of heavier aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbon solvents designed presumably to dissolve injector deposits.

Problem is you are trying to remove deposits [ possibly baked on] built up over many miles with a "once only" shot of solvent-- might work but problem might equally be be a faulty injector/s. My approach would be to try running a premium grade of diesel for a few tankfuls to see if things improve. Just as likely to improve things as a can of snake oil from the USA imho.

ps if going down the fuel additive route i would say try Millers products as a long term solution http://www.millersoils.co.uk/automotive/tds-automotive.asp?prodsegmentID=227&sector=Car

or specifically as a one off

Just simply put 20mm of Two Stroke oil to 1 gallon of diesel and no more smoke....

I have used it for over two years with fantastic results. Much quieter running and extra mpg because of a cleaner burn. Also lubricates the fuel pump as most sulphur has been removed from diesel.

I use this one but have 5 litres of it from Germany.

Can you check the rate please... :):)

Should I use bg244 first and then use two stroke oil or just go straight to the two stroke oil.
Thanks

IMO bg244 first then 2t, semi 2t if you have a dpf.

All diesels smoke to a point. Rather than buying expensive additives try using Shell's vpower diesel, either all the time or every 2nd or 3rd tank

Its about 12 pence a litre more expensive at my local Shell garage so additives may be good value compared to this. If you feel either is a benefit of course.
