For about 2 months now, my w219 has intermittently been going into limp mode, due to DPF blockage, I've forced a regen, and driven a long distance at high revs. Still no joy. I've just bought some specialist additive in the hope of clearing it

If that fails, shall I have it removed ( mot issue? )

Opinions please

Not currently an MOT issue provided it is welded back up but could be in the future.

You have my sympathy, blasted things....get it off!
I have been struggling with one on my wife's car ...EGR Blocked & soon the DPF will be history too!

The obvious solutions to these problems is to cut it off :D
Or get yourself a petrol...

Update :

Not DPF, two of my glowplugs are buggered, which is causing the DPF sensor to have a paddy. Hence limp

Being done tomorrow at an MB inde

£300. Not to painful I suppose

So whats the cost of a couple of glow plugs?

They are £17 each for the Beru ones from ECP with the code.

Marks price was similar to what i was quoted to replace all six of mine on my CLS , i thought is was a bit expensive for ,at maximum, an hours work.

It took me 30mins to replace mine and i had never done it before , plus i was told that if one had seized then it would be , much, more as they had to bring in a "man" to remove it so i figured that i was just as capable of shearing a plug as the garage so i gave it a go myself.

I'm having genuine ones though. And apparently it can be a nightmare on a v6. Plus my inde is practically a main dealer. Also having the sensor replaced. I don't think it's a bad price

Easier than me making a balls of it

Beru glow plugs are MB OEM.
ECP are OK, they sell the same item. There are fakes on Ebay.
I don't see any technical link between heater plug function and the DPF cycle. So I think this is mis-information.

Well, it's sorted, and it has the star print out to back up my handheld info.

Plug 5/6 buggered
Sensor replaced

Wonky plugs causes the fuel mixture to be incorrect. Hence DPF

Bad plugs means more smoking of cold diesel meaning it can fill the DPF with more crap that can overwhelm the regen cycle or shorten its life... That is what the mechanic told me before he realised I was smiling, due to my lack of DPF...

In fact there is a connection with the glows and re-gen.
They are activated automatically to assist the burning or heat production needed for regen activity. Since there is an injection pulse on the exhaust stroke when re-gen occurs the flame propagation is helped by glow plug pulse operation as the heat is generated in excess of 550 c to burn off soot. Obviously the ideal is dry soot but in so many cases of general operation variance wet soot laden with oils and chemicals are burnt off into ash and cause thermal temp run away and DPF /Cat heat destruction.
The thermostat is also a vital component since many of the controls or either not working or have temporary faults the re-gen is interrupted and yoo are on the road to no regen and plugged up units.

Yes probably ceramic and of course the ceramic compatible controller too that goes with it too!

Someone wrote above Just get "yurself a petrol " OH KAY!
Or get yourself a petrol...
BUT
Make sure its not got petrol GDI fueling strategies otherwise you might be in the same boat !
AND it's slated they too will have particulate filters on shortly plus enhanced NOx control features.

Someone told me recently that it won’t go into regen if you have less than 1/4 tank. Is this correct?

Driving on an A road today at 40/50 mph my wife asked why it hadnt changed up from 4th and 5th, and seemed to be reving a bit high, with a certain aplomb, and trying not to appear too all knowing, I replied "not a problem my sweet, its simply the DPF Regeneration" she seemed quite satisfied with this explanation, though i'm sure she had'nt a clue as to what I was referring, but was much impressed with my seemingly infinate mechanical knowledge. For my part, I was fortunate to have read on here only last week, that this will sometimes happen, or I may well have been contacting MB recovery. Smug or what?
