Hi everyone ,
This is my first post , I'd like to inform anybody who is thinking about the removal and remap of the DPF , EGR , & Catalytic converter on the OM642 V6 , Don't bother ! !
I've had a absolute nightmare since having the mod done on my 07 Vito 120 .
I've ended up having the ecu remapped thee times all the exhaust sensors being replaced , new maf , turbo intake seal , intake sensor and a stainless steel twin exit exhaust fitted.
The van is now in limp mode , no lights on the dash , no codes , and now it won't kick down & the turbo won't come in.
Any help would be a bonus.

Who did the remap? Ask them to remove it and go from there

Hi bob ,
The same place has remapped it 3 times ,
First time i was over the moon , more HP & quicker response , then I had the dpf removed because it felt like it was getting a bit slower , so back i went to the same garage & they remapped it for free for me.

Do you know if it was an off the shelf map or custom? Are they a reputable company? They could have missed something which is causing it

Hi bob ,
It's definitely a custom , they are very reputable in Cardiff and to be perfectly honest I do trust them .
Apparently the om642 engine is a bit of a problem when trying to delete the egr.

If you are happy they haven't screwed anything up then fine.

Limp should definitely throw up a fault code but since it has happened after the remap, my advice again is to ask them to put the stock map back on and go from there. If it still limps, you need to cure it before it gets mapped again.

Annoying I know but without codes you are peeing in the wind

Will take your advice on board , thank's Bob !
I've been to see the guys who have been trying to find the problem with the vito , and they are going to have it for the day . As one of the guys showed me this morning , when you first start the van , the turbo comes in straight away , but if you rev the engine the turbo stops .
Still no codes though ! Maybe the turbo actuator !
Watch this space !

Are they using a Star?

If not then not all codes can be pulled.

No , I know that they haven't got a star , but i went to an independent Mercedes garage this morning and he can't book me in for a month or so. I'm not going to go to the main dealer Stratstone , they charged me £280 +VAT for a new key for my wife's 01 clk 320 back about 2 years ago , they look down their noses at you , just because you have a pair of jeans on .

There must be another specialist near you with a Star that can help.

There is a garage not far from the city centre , but they over charged me for a full service & auto gearbox oil change & filter , on my wife's first Mercedes an 230 SLK that was at least 11 years ago and the bill came to £400 +.The boss of the garage told me that they will not be working on the car again , just because I had a pop at him for saying the engine oil was dirty and asking why !
It's getting very difficult to find a mechanic that you can trust , I've been an American car enthusiast since I was 15 and owned a number of American cars , but since computers have been installed , you have to have a "Technician" to work out what the problem is , and that means that they can charge what they want to charge because you (the customer) will never know what has been done.

Looks like , because I told truth about how I , and thousands of MB owners feel about being ripped off by "MB technicians" or "MB dealers" or any independent MB gararge who possess "star software" is allowed to charge what they f........ like , nobody wants to comment on the post.
I bet it gets a few comments now though !

I still think removing the DPF etc is inherently a risky option and all your problems stem from this. No one understands the engine coding like MB and everyone else is playing catch-up/reverse engineering. Just think about it - the car and subsequent programming was done as sum-of-whole-parts and with increasingly complex electronics, breaking/removing a part of the set-up is going to cause an issue somewhere.

Well I obviously didn't know this at the time !
If i had i wouldn't have f****** done it would I .
I haven't had any help at all off any of you in trying to get the poxy thing working again , only people stating the f***** obvious.
Thanx mb owners/members & enthusiasts.
Thanx for sod all.

Crikey, where did that come from?

I think you got a fair amount of help. Well STAR costs around £8k so it's fair to charge a premium for it's use. Your problem lies with the remapper and I think my advice to get it back to stock was the correct one and a good starting point.

I can understand your frustration but that is uncalled for and inaccurate.

Thanx mb owners/members & enthusiasts.
Thanx for sod all.

Thank you for the abuse

So first off you have everything for emissions control ripped off the van BY YOUR OWN CHOICE so it's pumping out as much crud as possible (whilst still paying the lower value of VED), then when it all goes wrong and no one on here has their STAR crystal ball handy, you throw all your toys out of your pram......

Best move on to another forum.

The boss of the garage told me that they will not be working on the car again , just because I had a pop at him for saying the engine oil was dirty and asking why !

This makes sense now having read the whole thread.

It's getting very difficult to find a mechanic that you can trust

Cause and effect.

You need to take a long hard look at yourself and sort your attitude problem out.

It all depends on the mapper buddy ; p

You my friend are your own worst enemy, you should have done some homework on why the oil looked 'dirty' before having a pop.
No wonder he didn't want you to come back.

I can see why you have fallen out with everyone within your vicinity, you have a really shocking attitude. Maybe try and calm down a bit and listen to the advice from people who know, you ma find you get things sorted much quicker and costing you far less. (However, I can just see your response to even this. )
