Hi,

I bought a 2011 E200 W212 in automatic. I love the car it is a great strong car and a pleasure to drive.

However i have noticed that it is not as responsive as i thought it would be. I appreciate it is a big heavy car but when pulling away from a complete stop there is a noticeable lag. But once it gets going it pulls really good. Therefore this has got me worrying if there is an underlying gearbox problem on these or if thats just the way they are.

im sort of new to driving these big mercs so was wondering if anyone out there with a similar car or experience can shed some light on this.

thanks

How many miles on the car? Any service history for fluid/filter change on the gearbox? In any case a fluid/filter change including the torgue converter fluid is recommended.

its on 66k with full service history and the oil got changed last service at 56k

Try running it in S, more responsive and pulls away in 1st gear,

Totally agree, in Eco mode it is an extremely lazy box but in Sport much better.

I rarely use Eco and the difference in mpg is minimal.

The 212 series E-Class has 2 diesel engines:
2.1 litre (E2XX)
3.0 litres (E2XX)

The 2.1 litre E2XX comes in 3 states of tune:
E200: 136 PS, 360 Torque
E220: 170 PS, 400 Torque
E250: 204 PS, 500 Torque

Your car, like mines, it tuned for low power but higher fuel efficiency.

I suggest first getting the OBD codes read to see if anything is flagged.

I had an issue with my transmission where it would not go beyond 3rd gear. I nice chap called Andy fixed my gearbox.

OP never said if it's a diesel or petrol. If it is indeed the diesel, I al afraid to say you have acquired the slowest version of this car possible. Not sure you can expect it to be nippy off the line. I have a 350 CDI with the updated 265 engine and while it is fast I could do with some more poke to it. Could be me getting used to that sort of power though.

gianton and sms thanks for the suggestion i will try that and see if that helps, but with all the other suggestions im starting to think this is how these cars are.

i had a w reg c200 petrol automatic before this for a short while which was an amazing car. my dad had it for years and it gave him no problems. unfortunately had to get rid of it for other reasons. thats the only merc i drove before getting this e class. dont get me wrong i love it but i guess i will just have to accept its not a sports car its more for luxury driving.

thanks

ah i take it thats just how these cars are then?

thanks for the suggestion, ill let you know how i get on.

Hi Mubashar, we both have the same car and yes like you and others have told me it seems like that is the case with these cars.

i will see if i can get it booked in with my local independent garage to check for fault codes relating to the gearbox.

apart from the issue of yours not going above 3rd gear, have you noticed the delay/lag when pulling away from a complete stop?
