My ancient radio in the E300TD has become a bit intermittent.
It may be the radio ... An ancient Sony.
However - The intermittent nature of the failure tells me it could be a poxy aerial connection.
I know the aerial is the rear screen heater.
Where is the connection point ?
Is it a connector ?
I've looked upwards in the boot and cannot see it.
Do I access it from in the boot ... or from inside the car.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks Hotrodder.
I suspected an aerial problem rather than the radio.
What do we understand by the "head unit" ?
I see it as aerial .. lead .. amplifier .. lead .. back of radio.
Head unit ?

Head unit = radio... akin to an AV receiver or pre amp in a hifi seperates set up as car radios are often control centres rather than stand alone deals.
Like you said intermittant suggests a bad connection, i posted the link thinking it might help track some of the aerial cable connections at the screen end

The amplifier is in the n/s C pillar, but I bet the problem is the aerial lead has broken in the head connector. The wire is slightly thinner than a knats left testicle.

Fit a new connector and all will be well. Make sure you by a right angled connector, or an adapter to make a conventional one fit.

Thanks guys.
My radio was probably the dog's when the car was new.
It's pretty-dated now ... like the rest of the car ... and its owner.
It's strange how the technology has passed me by.
I am an electronics engineer by trade, and I've fitted and repaired a good few car radios.
The term "head unit" is a new one to me.

I'm sure I'll sort it OK.
No problem soldering fine wires.

You won't solder it because it flexes, just trim the lead and fit a straight connector and right angled adapter.

The Sony was the cheaper optional set, the Becker was the proper one... :)

If the set is duff...which is unlikely, let me know, I can get hold of my old Becker.

Do you want to sell the Becker ?
Name your price. PM me.
The Sony works, but the display is in very poor condition.
I've been thinking about changing it for some time.
Now might just be the moment.
It's got to come out anyway.

I'll let you know, it's no longer mine, but I can retrieve it...;)

The cassette has been modified to take MP3 input, but could be reverted, by you, if required.

If the Becker is unwanted, it would be great to have it.
I'll be happy to pay a fair price.
The display on the Sony is so poor that I've been thinking of replacing it.
I no longer have any cassettes - So that's not an issue.
I still have the Sony CD player in the boot if anyone wants that.

MP3 input ... That would be a new thing to learn.
I think the "problem" is that we have no kids, so I have never learned about these things.
