Hi
Im new to this forum hoping for some help.
Recently purchased a e320 cdi 2006 elegance model.

The steering wheel is hard but still functions.

Also i have following malfunctions

ABS/ESP inoperative

Run flat tyre inoperative

Brake wear

and couple of light ones which im sure just require a bulb change.

They doe not affect the drive of the car, it drives fine...
But cruise control inoperative.

I took to local Mercedes specialist garage he said without any diagnostic machine etc.. that its 80% power steering pump 20% could be rack but rare.
The abs/esp is all linked to wheel sensor may need to change both?....
Cruise control is also because of the abs/esp issue once that sorted it will work.
The run flat tyre inoperative may just be a sensor not changed when changing tyres etc..
Same with brake wear he says could be pads need changing or just sensor.
He also said none of the issues are linked.... power steering and abs/esp etc,..

Has anyone had any similar issues especially with Power steering and abs/esp problem. Are they linked ?

Any help is appreciated
Thanks

run flat and brake pads are separate IMO. But cruise, ABS/ESP, steering can be just faulty rear speed sensor... especially if you have parametric steering option. Really need diagnostic, some power steering pump failures reported but pretty rare. Also rarely solenoid valve in rack may fail (again with parametric steering only). BTW have you checked ALL fuses?

Hi
Thanks for reply
where would i check for fuses ? and which one ?
sorry my knowledge on mercedes not very good but im a quick learner.

also i could it be anything to do with ABS ring aswell ?

Hi
update:
Changed Brake light switch, front passanger wheel speed sensor... SAME PROBLEM.
The codes can be removed but as soon as i drive down the roads ABS/ESP INOPERATIVE comes back on also cant use cruise control etc...

Garage is confused so am i..

Please need help....

Have you tried turning the steering wheel lock to lock? Are all the tyres the same size and of similar tread remaining? is the main battery in good condition?

This has to be an abs ring.

You mentioned changing tyres in your first post. Are they the same front and rear?

Hi
tried locking both ways and i think tyres are same (car still in garage so will double check tomorrow)
i could do with front tyres though as i changed back ones last time but would tyres have anything to do with abs/esp inoperative malfunction ?

Thanks guys

Yes, if the rolling circumference is out to much between axle's

My friends w211 had the exact same issue with the esp/inop

have you checked the SBC module because it also trigger all this .

Hi, I had very similar problems with my 1998 E300TD. Read the various forums and checked changed lots of things with no improvement. Eventually took it to my local garage with a code reader and it turned out to be the rear right speed sensor ring. Replaced that and all was good again.

Hope it's that simple for you, but do yourself a favour don't waste time changing this and that, get the codes read so you know exactly where the fault lies.

Good luck
Sturm

Its sad when this happens as it just prevents the nucleus of information of the forum from expanding.
Personally, I would have thought it just good manners to come back and respond. But hey, I am getting old , and good manners seem to be old teachings now.

Hi, I’ve got a 2004 54reg E320cdi Avantgarde W211. I’ve owned it now for a year and a half, ever since I bought it (with 101K mileage, atm 130K) i had many issues with it. Latest issue I had was the SRS squid ring, which i got replaced. The day i replaced it a warning light came on saying Esp defected and Abs defected. When these lights come on, I lose the power steering, and steering becomes very hard, however does not affect the break. The warning lights stays on until 20mph, where the warning signs disappear and power steering is okay again, however the esp triangle ⚠️ keeps on flashing. Whilst this the breaks become very soft, then the warning lights come back on and steering becomes hard again. I’ve taken it to a local garage, where it been put on a diagnostic. Abs sensors and magnetic rings were replaced to new and the fault dissapeared for about 20 meters. Mechanic put it back on diagnostic and this time another fault code came up. Mechanic told me that the Sbc ecu is faulty and must be replaced, however they are incredibly hard to find, as most people only sell them with the full unit. Anyone could suggest me if that sound legit, as I’ve read on other forums that people had the same issue, and after replacing ecu’s and pumps the fault was still on.
Tganks.

hello
i had same problem with my e class
if it was the abc pump unit it would show up red on dash in the speedo cluster and you would have no brakes or very little brakes
it will be the passenger side rear reluctor ring which the speed sensor cannot get the speed from this brings esp on abs on and stops cruise control working and also makes power steering heavy i replaced reluctor ring and all the faults went away once i cleared the codes
hope this helps
regards
