Hello all,

I recently bought a merc E350 BlueEFFICIENCY Sport 7G-Tronic with a panoramic roof, 7 seats in silver. I have paid £10,600 for the car and it's milage is 92k. It has had services every 20k (apart from at 60K, where it missed a service). The car has had some gearbox work done by a specialist as shown below:

Unfortunately the day I was driving the car back from the garage I had this warning light appear:

The car went into limp mode and and it was only after I turned the ignition off and on did it go back to normal; however the engine managment light stayed on.

The next day I was driving when the car snapped out of cruise control and was just revving, it was saying it was in drive but all the car did was just rev. When I turned the ignition off an on it was ok again. This is very alarming and I must admit it has put a downer on the feeling of buying a new car.

The car has the merc badge on the front of the grill rather than the sticking up badge on the bonnet. As shown below:

The trader has said I can have my money back or take it for a repair. At this moment in time I have opted to take it back, which I plan to do Saturday, but before I do I would like some advice and answers to the following questions:

Is there a way I can find out the full spec of the car from factory?
What dertermines the badge being on the grill rather than on a stick?
Should I get the repair or take it back?

If I take it back it seems I will find it really hard to find this spec for around 11k.

VIN please? We can then get you the datacard.

If I am not mistaken all W212 have the raised badge, the grill on yours is aftermarket.

This is very much up to you, if the trader is covering the repair costs it is worth considering. I would take it to a trusted garage for a 'health check' so you can know the true state of the car as if it has a lot wrong with it I would take the refund rather than have issues later when it may be out of the 'trader warranty'

The EML could be anything, it needs to be plugged into STAR to be diagnosed ideally. If you have a cheap generic OBD scanner, that may also work.
