I'm having a few transmission issues on my 2005 (w211) E55 AMG.

When I use the kick down it jolts, starts to accelerate then goes into neutral. I then pull over put into (P) then (D) and it pulls away fine. In fact in drives fine until I use the kick down or accelerate hard. This week it also got stuck in third gear after accelerating hard and used the same remedy as over.

Its only got 6Ok on the clock and well looked after. Any suggestions welcome my only guess is a solenoid on the gearbox.

Thanks in advance

Have level checked, also check for leaks around the electronic connector, if these are OK then possibly a valve body / conductor plate issue, you will need it on a Star machine to be sure.

The connector has been checked and the o ring is good with no leaks, She's in the garage tomorrow for further checks so ill mention the valve body / conductor plate issue,

Not that i know off, is that the best start? isn't the transmission a sealed unit?
No.

Recommended changes are circa 40,000 miles. To drain it properly takes someone with specialist knowledge, just draining the sump will remove approximately half of the fluid. It must have the levels checked at 80 degrees C as well

You may have the beginning of a speed sensor/electroplate fault in the gearbox. As it has stuck in gear, your transmission ECU should have a stored fault code which can be used to diaagnose the real fault. You need an MB indy to use STAR (MB diagnostics) to see what is going on.
From your location I'd take a run down the M27 to Olly at PCS in Horndean and have it seen to. If it is the speed sensor/electroplate its around £400+ to have it renewed along with fresh ATF and filter.

As Alps has stated get the transmission fluid changed, hopefully it will be an easy fix.

Off subject, interesting to see another w211 55 nearby, (I am in Eastbourne) the majority of them are all miles away, and a very low mileage you have on your car, what year is it..? also if I may ask whom are your merc specialist you are using, are they local to you, bar MB Eastbourne and Brighton, there,s no one local, albeit no one local i would trust, be good to hear if you have a trust worthy local place. rgds R

As above every 36,000 miles replace the ATF

Its a 2005, bought it at 40k, one owner from new. Ive been using A J Robinson in Hove for serving who have been good to a point but don't specialise in transmission work. Going to give John Hayes in Worthing ago, booked in for tomorrow

Thx Stuart, not experienced or heard of the two companies you mention, hopefully as said previously, it will be an easy fix for you, please report back the findings and fix for us all when you resolve the problem, always a great help educating us with these e55's. Your car sounds a good one, one owner and very low mileage, for the age, hopefully we will all get to see it sometime at GTG, should you be inclined to bring it along one day. to which I look forward to. AJ Robinson are a small garage have been going for years and offer a decent service and John Hayes Independent Mercedes Specialists | Worthing | Sussex | Goring is a bit more up market and offer full restoration also. Will let you know the outcome as going in later today. Whats GTG? Again thanks for the advice and help. Stu

GTG is "get together", usually a meet up of a few, sometimes a lot of the guys here, and the girls occasionally, at a relevant venue, a good few go on through the year, just keep an eye on events section, always enjoyable and very informative a lot of the time. Rgds R

These boxes are known for issues if the oil & filter isn't changed. Not helped by MB changing their mind on the issue. Most now seem to acknowledge that the oil (all of it inc. that in the torque converter) & filter should be changed at 60,000Km (37,282 miles to be exact).

You may also want to check recommendations for rear axle oil changes, this too can be neglected. I have a regular W211 (OM642 engine) and plan to have gearbox services and rear axle oil changes at 37,000 miles.

Do post back with news.

So problem fixed! Star diagnosis came back with " Gear Change Implausible, check gear box oil"
Gearbox electrical plug was leaking, so that was replaced and 2 liters of oil added.
(last garage checked but didn't pick up on any of this)

Also slight misfire on cylinder 4, just needed the cap reconnecting

Now it runs like a dream.

Cant recommend John Haynes garage enough, great customer service and price
