C220 Coupe
Dear All, I am not a technical person. I have a 56 plate 220 diesel Coupe and the temperature gauge appears to be reading 20 degrees or so less than I remember. The car used to run at just over 80 and now appears to run at 60. Please advise?

Maybe thermostat failed, or could be just not getting up to temp in short journeys with heater on full in the cold weather

Many thanks

I have a longer journey tomorrow and will see how it performs

Is it much of job to replace?

Regards

I replaced the thermostat on my petrol-engined C180K last week and it was very straightforward.

I can't imagine the C220CDI will be significantly more difficult.

The trick is to syphon out the coolant from the expansion bottle to avoid spill when removing the thermostat, then carefuly pouring it all back in once the new thermostat is in place.

The original MB coolant is 15-Year long-life coolant and shouldn't really be topped-up with substitutes.

Many thanks

Be careful of the plastic fuel pipes near the thermostat, they can become brittle and may crack when being moved out of the way.
