Fuel divider (metering unit) for SL 107

Hi

I'm a first time poster and pretty ignorant about anything under the bonnet, so please bear with me...!

My SL500, 1985, is belching blue smoke and my mechanic says it's the fuel divider (also called 'metering unit').

I'm looking for a replacement on ebay etc. Any ideas as to whether a 1985 model like mine will take a modern one, or if it needs a specific one then what exactly should I be searching for?

Or am I best sending the current knackered one off to the SL Shop or somewhere similar to try and repair it?

Blue smoke sounds more like oil burning. Second opinion, I think.
