After some deliberation, I could not justify spending £225 for the Mercedes Bars so I went the Thule option to match the roof box I already own. The bars came with locking keys to match the thule roof box (one key system, I think they call it).
First impressions are that is a quality piece of kit but instructions are rubbish. I am an expert on IKEA stuff
and still took me a while to understand how to build the system.
Once I put them together, I went to the car to fix them to the car and adjust the width to the car points. The bars are supposedly designed for the coupe (11-) with glass roof but I think they are exactly the same system used by the saloon with glass roof (07-).
Instructions show the angled rubber feet in front fixing points and the flat rubber feet in the rear ones but as the coupe has such a slopping roof I decided to swap them around so the bars seat as horizontally as possible.
Once installed I carefully opened the glass roof to double check it did clear it and it does quite nicely without leaving a massive gap.
