Gents,

One of the guys at work has a 62 plate 1.6litre diesel Golf.

A warning light came on the dash and has been traced via a code reader to read as 'cylinder 4 glow plug circuit/open'

Any ideas please.

Depends on car age , mileage and number of cold starts. At 4 years old with average use I would be inclined to do all four. In general the longer they are left in the more difficult eventual and inevitable removal.:dk:

If the inlet manifold etc. has to be removed for access to the plugs (which is the biggest cost on the job), then get all 4 done.

When I bought glow plugs for the E250D , they were something like £1.20 each for Beru ones from Eurocarparts .

It would be silly not to replace the lot - has anyone ever replaced ONE spark plug ?

On engines like the 616 or 602 with good GP access, I treat them like light bulbs - i.e. same variable lifespan.

605 and 606 - usually a horrid job, manifold needs off, and they carbon up on the shanks.

CDIs with the thin GPs?
All I've removed so far came out clean, no thread problems. Not what i expected...
