W124 300D Sportline 1991
Hi everyone!

First of all let me apologize for my poor English, my mother tongue is Spanish and, altough I obtained my degree in the US, that was a long time ago and language is like a car, tends to rush if not in use!

Anyway my name is Manuel, aka Manu, I'm from a major city in the north west coast of Spain called Vigo, in Galicia province (celtic nation!). I'm a fan of the '80s classic cars and a proud owner of some of them: A 1989 Ford Escort 1.8 D with Ford RS sport kit (now in restoration) a 1982 Mercedes-Benz W123 300D and my daily car: A 1991 Mercedes-Benz W124 Sportline 300 D.

I'm very happy with all three, specially with the W124 wich is the second unit I own in my lifetime. First one was a 1987 model brought to me by IBM Corp. Germany when worked for them more than ten years ago, and sold with 1.250.000 Km!

Now I swapped (not sure if this is the correct word, please correct me if not) my ex-daily car (1998 Citroen Xantia MK2 TD SX) with a friend's W124 300D, because he was in the need of a smaller car than this monster and I wanted again the feel and touch of the W124, so we swapped cars both feeling happy with the deal!

Now some photos:

The cockpit. It's in good condition except for a wear in the driver's seat:

Alloys (from a later model, W210 I guess):

Perfectly working air conditioning system, adapted to R134a by the Diavia guys:

The *new* stereo system fitted by me. The front speakers are new Alpines, but the rear speakers are the original ones sounding very very good (almost 25 years old units!):

As you've seen the car's not looking perfect: In fact there's some small dents and things alike, but nothing really serious. The driver's seat needs some work on it, but is very comfortable. Rest of interior is 9/10. Sunroof is not opening, motor works but nothing happens (the problem is with the sunroof tilt system, cable and motor, etc are OK).

Mechanically the car is performing perfectly, giving its power and torque almost as new. Runs so smooth and drives like a dream. It features a working air conditioning system, a lot of wood in good condition, ABS, of course power steering and some other extras.

So, I'm very happy with it and I hope to learn and help a lot everyone who needs it. Later I'll introduce my other MB wich, curiously, features the very same colour, and some photos of the improvements I've already made to the W124. My goal is to restore it to its original condition, time will tell if I'll can :)

Comments welcome! :thumb:

Thanks a lot for the warm welcome, guys... I'm taking more photos and will post here ASAP. Plus some data and parts I found across the local scrap yards. Cheers to you all!

Welcome! I visited Vigo once on a long driving tour and had a spectacular dinner of local seafood.

It's very nice to see a decent diesel 300 accumulating vast KMs!
