Only noticed this recently and only on German cars, but the hazard lights flash at a different intervals depending on whether the ignition is off or on.

They illuminate and flash for a shorter time when the ignition is off. Easiest way to notice it is putting the hazards on just before you turn the engine off, then remove the key and you can hear the difference in the clicking sound.

Anybody else noticed this and knows the reason why?

Not notice that, but will try later. It makes sense though as it presumably saves battery power??

Probably that. But my indicators are LED all round so in theory could be left flashing for a very very long time.
