Head Light Confusion

I had a problem with my indicator recently and decided to change the the light cluster on the nearside, pretty simply to remove. But when i went to put the replacement on i realised it was different! mainly to the point of having only 1 connection point where as the original had 2. Now i tried it out and all the fuctions work on the light??? there was some sort of control box on the bottom of the light ? Now i cant believe this has had no effect to something, so what have i disconnected? Its on a 02 cdi 270

What type of headlights do you have, halogen or projector?

Do you have the headlight height level control knob for the lights, next to the light switch?

A picture would really help.

I can get a picture but there is a level switch 0-5 i think
