While the E type looks superb from several angles if you ever watch one coming up behind you in the rear view mirror it betrays its 50's origins when its rather narrow track and skinny tyres can make it slightly ungainly to modern eyes . :dk: Happily this look was addressed in the racers and later series 3 V12 model with beefier wheels/ tyres and wider track.

Great programme but by the end I wanted to poke that presenter in the eye; trying to drum up drama "if the buyer doesn't like the car someone here will lose their job"?!
 
A beautiful car but in essence just a replica.
 
Not dismissing the workmanship but I can't help being cynical about the whole project. Then again I don't have a mil to blow on a car so I might have a different view if I did...maybe I'd be even be more cynical.
 
Whatever the programme brought to anyone, I have the utmost respect for Kev (the test pilot), who was there with them all the way through and possibly the most passionate car guy I've seen for a long time. :)

Waste of money? Probably, though the people who can afford something like this are not exactly known for their gullibility. More than likely a shrewd investment, though it may take a while to mature. :)

Personally I loved the car though, even if I could afford it, would find it hard to justify. It's not even got four doors...

In essence the original manufacturer has resumed production and made another six original cars , which were planned for back in the 60's .

Original manufacturer??? Hardly the same Jaguar of 50 years ago and definitely not the same people doing the building.

When Aston Martin, McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche, etc set about extracting circa £1m from a customer they do so by offering innovative technology (construction materials, drivetrain, or both). Here Jaguar have merely looked backwards and boutiqueised an ancient design and syruped it with an expensive paint job on the basis it is valid as a book contains six unused 'chassis' numbers. If six Van Gogh signatures are found and applied to Sunflowers painted today by one of his relatives are they Van Goghs? - or replicas?
Jaguar, where is your courage? Beancounters' fingers still burned after XJ220?

All I learned about the technicalities of the car was that it was riveted and through observation that it was fuel injected. And that was it. Lots about making seats and painting (all car resto programmes seem capable of these days) and SFA on the engineering. Quite some time ago accountants took the upper hand where engineers once had it. Seems engineering is now usurped by 'detailing'. 'Would Sir like a matching wristwatch and handbag with his 'new' car?'
 
It seems to be all about marketing along with a cheap promotional project for Jag. Even 'if' Jag lost money on each one they could very possibly still end up in the black thanks to the exposure from the press, specialist press and of course primetime T.V. etc. Then again there was a lack of substance to the programme when a briefcase, watch and silhouette model got so much prominence.

Personally, I'd have much preferred to see a programme about a new Jag museum or a new classic car repair & maintenance facility.
