The old Johnny Cash song ‘one piece at a time’ wasn’t so far fetched .

My father in law was a cooper working in various distilleries through his career , and had stories of ingenious ways of smuggling the stuff out - the best of which was this guy who had modified the fuel tank of his car to hold whisky , and had a small tank for petrol , which connected to the filler neck so that it would stand being dipped ...

It's true, some of the things that people pinched and the methods were quite cunning.

I was at the Walls (ice cream) site in Gloucester early '80s and a guy got stopped by security driving out through the gates because it was summer and the bootlid of his car was covered in a layer of frost :D

What are these Imps like reliability wise...? And parts? Are they a modern classic that can be used as a daily?

Absolutely, with a decent water pump and multi core radiator no problems at all.

We don't hesitate in taking ours anywhere and can't wait for nice weather to get them out (so to speak:)).

It gets better, I can hear the engines now...

OK so he gets a bit fussy as we all do with our prides and joys, but this could be Aladdin's cave to the right types...

Can you see George gettin twitchy?

Other Sunbeam Imps (2) 1969

In the 1970's, I can remember seeing a Mk. 1 Escort with a 350 Chevy racing at Ingliston (Near Edinburgh). An Imp with a V8 must have been something else!

I ran a 1965 singer chamois way back, one of my better buys, ran it for years with no problems, think if Rootes had troubleshooted the problems before foisting it on the public it would have outsold the mini, much better car IMO. Eventually my wife burnt out clutch during lessons, replaced in the street using a dexion frame on four castors, loved the car still have original routes group trim clips somewhere in the garage

As we were plying our trade back at college, we did many crazy conversions including a 7ltr V8 Vauxhall Ventora and a Supercharged Essex V6 Powered MK3 Cortina.. It used to do "doughnuts" at the foot of the street where there was a large turning circle...

Took the cars for a run out to Dundee Museum of Transport for their Drive it Day celebration on Sunday.

It was George's (JDL) second outing after making a trip to Montrose last week for an Imp event.

Stopped off at the Jim Clark memorial at Kilmany on the way back too as it was 50 years ago he was sadly killed.

Virtual pint to anyone that notices something in the pictures.

The Blue,Gold and Dark Green cars don't have wing mirrors.

she would 'prop' open the rear window to give us proper air con.

That takes me back, my parents used to have an Imp and my father had one of these to keep the rear window open.

And then my first car was a Singer Chamois, VJG 484J
