Hi, I have a 2008 CLS 500 (5.5 M273 engine), a while back I had a hot oil smell every time I drove it, turns out it was the cam blanking plug on the right hand bank, changed that and the strong oil smell went away.
Apart from occasionally I get a similar smell, but not as strong when its been left for a while, it clears and then doesn't do it, cant be much as have never needed to top it up.
I did read about the PCV/Crankcase breather thing, which sounds plausible, where is it and what are they like to change ? oh and any other possible causes, cant seen any oil and it is only occasionally, car otherwise runs liek new despite 115,000 miles.
