and the C230k is 14 for manual, 13 for auto (why's that?).  I would expect the C280 to be the same...

Im sure my car is ins grp 15 ... &nbsp;<img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':('>

mine's apparently 15 after all:
C230 Kompressor Sport 4d Saloon C-Class (1993-01) - 15

The 240 is 13 or 14 depending on trim level (same performance though so how does that work?)

C240 Elegance 4d Saloon Tip Auto C-Class (1993-01) 13
C240 Sport 4d Saloon Tip Auto C-Class (1993-01) - 14

the 280 is 15 or 16 depending on trim level.

C280 Sport 4d Saloon Tip Auto C-Class (1993-01) 16

c43 ///AMG is only group 19 <img src="http://www.mbclub.co.uk/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>

My insurance company seemed more interested in the fact my car was a sport trim rather than the engine being a 2.4 L. I could hear the cash register &quot;chinging&quot; as they persisently asked what trim model of C240 the car was.

My insurace company wants £368 to insure my '95 E220 coupe fully comp. but only £304 to insure a '82 280SL?

Hehe, on the pre-facelift the insurance groups were the same I think, only on the facelift models did the auto fall by 1. Maybe they now think there is more risk with someone who chooses a manual? :)

Yeah, thats because a car with a bodykit/trim is more likely to be knicked than a standard model.

Your average theif wont go looking at the badges on the back in a hurry

It is odd but as previous threads have shown - trying to understand insurance companies is like trying to understand women

When I asked directline about the insurance groups they said they had their own, they didn't look at the published ones. My car is apparently group 73 or something.
